We aren’t testing sound quality of streaming services. When comparing dacs, amps and headphones the source material is far less important than having consistent test parameters. Demanding that your source is high resolution is a red herring, since what YOU might consider high res enough, someone else won’t.

@@NoThemeReviews I agree that having consistent test parameters is important as long as you are using the same music source and front-end components for each equipment being tested. However, I think it is very hard to obtain a true sense of the technicalities of a pair of high-end headphones or components when its being fed with a compressed thus sub-par audio format. Having been in the audio world for quite some time - just my 2 cents.

@@NoThemeReviews lol you are delusional. Spotify sounds good, but they definitely fuck with the sound. Get deezer, Tidal, something. If you listen to headphones that good, you should know it makes a positive difference. If someone doesn't like high res lossless audio, sorry but that's on them

With my DT1990s I found so many mistakes in the mixes of music that I enjoy, and it bothered me. I wonder if these would reveal even more issues and distract me from the music...

I tested and liked many headphones but the Clear is the more true to Life sounding headphones that I ever heared. Piano and drums (the impact) sound real, vocales does and dynamic is great. One downside is Bass clipping (especially with 3D technology for movies like dolby which use sub channel). But for music that isn’t very bass heavy, they sound gorgious.

Great video NTR, how are the Sendy Aiva compared to the Focal Clear? I'm thinking about buying the Monoprice M570 which supposedly use the same drivers and tuning as the Aiva.

I can do a comparison. I think the two are fairly close in clarity, but the Aiva a slight edge in detail retrieval. I'll test to make sure. I saw Monoprice's new headphones; they all look very promising. I'm waiting for the 1570 to come out.

Man I just got a pair they sound great but left driver buzzes under bass it’s pretty annoying they are probably getting returned it’s dissapointing for a 1400$ headphones I suppose here I come audeze

Can you check the clears at the end of the mountains track? I want to know if the clears can handle the organ going nuts at the 3:00 minute mark that makes the DT 1990 Pro clip "Fan noise."

@@TheHope12322 Yikes...yeah. That's pretty loud, IMO. The DT1990 has a bad habit of clipping and distorting at very high volumes--which is something I noticed regarding its bass performance. You can do a little experiment with this. Start off on low gain, and try to achieve volume you think is fairly loud for this track. Listen to that portion again, repeating on medium and high gain, adjusting volume as you go. There should be a point at which the 1990 does NOT clip.

@@NoThemeReviews Makes sense. I was just concerned because my HD 800S performs at max volume on gain 3 and the distortion caught me off guard. Granted the HD 800S has a 56mm transducer 500 mW vs 45mm 200 mW on the DT 1990 Pro. Do you have plans to review the T1 gen 3? Oh the DT 1990 isn’t amp picky is it? The distortion is constant across a variety of amps?

If you like the Clear so far you really need to try a STAX SR-L700 or SR-L300 Limited... expensive proposition, but takes it up a level from the Clears. The Clears are the closest thing I've heard to my STAX SR-L300 Limited modded to an L700 clone (L700 pads and headband assembly).

I used to have the Focal Elex and I remember feeling like they had a nice 3D effect to the sound like its all around your head and with decent separation. Liked them a bit better than the oppo pm2.

Focal clear, still have the short incursion drive issue of most Focal have, clips easily in high bass song, has been measured and reported by many users

Does the XLR gives them a benefit ?

The XLR is balanced; the only real benefit to balanced is potentially less noise in the signal--but that assumes you have a fully balanced system--from your computer to your dac to your amp to your headphones. Manufacturers frequently allow slightly greater volume in balanced outputs because they assume the balanced will be less noisy. Of course, you can daisy chain an unbalanced 1/4" to an XLR and still benefit from the slight volume increase without the true balanced experience. In short, balance has less and less relevance now that units have significantly low distortion. Indeed, manufacturers are now competing with each other to produce units that have THD of 0.002 and lower--which is frankly imperceptible to people. Balanced made more sense many decades ago when the THD was in the double digits, and more easily heard in the signal.

bass test to check if your Focal drivers are defective like mine haha they cant handle bass and start to clip, focal telling people that they are listening to loud is funny as hell since garbage cans for 100$ or less can handle more power

Yeah, that's a potential deal breaker. If you buy a Focal from a region distributor, you'll be able to get some warranty support through them. For example, in the US, Upscale Audio is really very good about telling you what they can and cannot help in regards to warranty service.

Yup. I was testing the Fifine mic. It sounds decent raw, but really doesn't do well if I start adding filters in Audition. Found out the hard way.
