Have had this affliction since early 2000's- am 63 yrs of age and accomplished classical degreed pianist but not my avocation-am medical professional and would like conversation with others so afflicted-only apparent at the keyboard with extended fingers and curling and of course motor skills compromised- any talk or otherwise would be appreciated-Thank you --also seems to worsen with extended work at keyboard

I am sorry you are going through this challenge in life. Try to use it as an opportunity to grow and let go of something that didn't work. No, I have not tried that...

Hi! I would like to share my story with you (maybe you can help me). I'm a piano student of a German conservatory and I was diagnosed with focal dystonia for about one and a half years. I been suffering from this disease for about 2 years, but my diagnose what difficult because I only had symptoms while playing and problems playing with one finger. I've tried many different kinds of therapy and my actual therapist told me to stop playing for a while. Did you also stopped playing for a few months after your diagnose? If l'm enyoing this period of not playing, but I still want to become a pianist, what do you recommend me to do after the not playing period? Thanks for your videos!

Dear Pilar, one of my current students that I teach for a year now have exactly the same problem as you described. For over 30 years. If you like send me an email and he will be happy to get in touch with you, sharing his experience working with me. And yes, I had to stop playing for 4 years. After healing myself I started my youtube channel by learning Chopins studies, because I could! Please, stay in touch 💜

I can do everything I want. I only have light symptoms IF I intensely type for 10 hours/day for 3 weeks straight. But again, who wouldn't?

@@pianotechnique what about your hand writing
@pianotechnique3 жыл бұрын
@@kushaldubey9782 oh yes!! I avoid any hand writing. Only typing. Hand writing was the worst. Good thing, the last time I had to write by hand was 10 years ago.

@@pianotechnique it's in my left index. Benadryl helps a bit but it's not good to take. I learn new pieces everyday. 15 minutes at each. That's what a dystonia coach said to do. I'll see hand doctor next month. I think a 25 minute surgery to release the scar tissue around index would fix this . But how to convince doctors

You do wonder whether these people had Focal Dystonia? If you can play Walt Disney music you don't have FD!!.....If this does genuinely work for you then I'm happy..... But really it's just twaddle!!!
@pianotechnique Жыл бұрын
@@adrianburridge2378 I am sorry you feel this way, Adrian. I did have 2 documents from doctors proving the diagnose. And I couldn't play (and still struggle to hand writing) for many years. Emotional safety and retraining your mind to have different sensations when playing does do wanders. I wish so much you recover soon and gain your faith back again.
