I'm a full-time photographer in the Netherlands and I'm planning on showing you a but more of my life as a photographer. Are you interested in photography? Are you looking for a free-online Photography course? Do you want to see the inside of a Photo Studio? Then please, watch my videos and subscribe to my channel!
I'm planning on sharing videos in which I show you my typical work-week as a photographer. I will give you tips & tricks concerning photography, photo shoots, backdrops, studio props, camera settings (iso, aperture, shutter speed, white balance), photoshoot outfits, photoshoot make-up etc.
Ik zal videos maken over camera instellingen (iso, sluitertijd, diafragma, wit-balans), studio achtergronden, fotoshoot outfits, fotoshoot make-up enz.
IMPORTANT
If you are interested in photographing newborn babies yourself I would highly recommend you to first learn about photography in general. Master you camera, photograph in the Manual mode, learn about aperture, iso, shutter speed, white balance, light and composition. Take photos of your friends (adults or very patient older kids) and make sure you don't have to think about your camera anymore when photographing babies. Learn about editing as well. Please, don't experiment photographing Newborn babies without training. Attend a workshop by an experienced and professional photographer with an expertise in Newborn Photography. Learn about the anatomy of babies and invest in good quality cameras, lenses and props. Babies are extremely vulnerable and small and their safety and comfort should be your highest priority. Start with simple poses and make sure you know and understand that many 'pinterest poses' are composites. Please, don't try this at home. If you want beautiful photos of your own Newborn Baby, I highly recommend you to hire a professional and experienced photographer who is trained and specialised in Newborn Photography.

I use the Sigma Art 35mm f/1.4 for my Newborn photos and I absolutely love it. I highly recommend it. I also have the Canon 50mm f/1.4 but I prefer the sigma, images are sharper and the Bokeh is beautiful. Now I was thinking of buying the canon 24-70mm for my family and sitter/cake smash sessions ☺️

Thank you for answering my question! I use the Nikon 50mm 1.4, and sometimes I need to take some distance to photografe the baby, I think it could be interesting to have a wide angle lenses.

It was a good question. Thank you! The 50mm 1.4 sounds great. I like sitting close to the baby and I think the distortion is really okay, but I guess it's also personal preference.

That's the problem with zoom lenses for beginners: they're often not aware of what focal length they've selected, and their shots don't look consistent, or they unintentionally create awkward distortion. Your shots, however, are consistent because one must assume you've put in the hours and also have a well-trained eye for what you want to achieve with that lens. Personally I mainly use prime lenses - a 50mm and a 90mm, and I'm considering a 140mm too but that will be something I have to save up for. I have zoom lenses too, but I rarely use them in the studio.

Good comment. Thank you for sharing! However I must admit I only partly agree. I don't look at all the numbers, but I look through my lens. I look for the sweet spot. The perfect image, composition, light. I have a picture in my mind and I try to create art, every single time I shoot an image. I don't just shoot, even though I don't pay attention to the numbers like focal distance. I do however pay attention to my aperture, shutter speed, iso, white balance etc. I'm not a fully technical photographer, but maybe more an intuitive photographer. You're right that I have a well-trained eye now after years of shooting and I'm glad you see consistency in my shots. Whether someone is a beginner or a professional, I don't think that not knowing your focal distance in mm often results in inconsistency and awkward distortion. It might sometimes. However, if they pay attention to what they see through their lens, they might consciously choose their focal distance based on sight, not numbers. Also, a wide angles lens creates distortion when you're really close to something. Normally people would automatically zoom in for close-ups (and not zoom out and stand nose-to-nose with their model) and therefore, won't get much of the distortion. Interested to read your opinion on my thoughts :)

@@FennaPhotography plus everyone has different tastes. I love some pet portraits where the head of the dogs are super distorted, but it is intentional... I love prime lenses, but use a zoom more because it is very flexible :)

Another great video! Wow! I have a newborn session coming up and I can't wait to use what I have learned. Even though I have photographed over 800 newborns (I worked for a company that contracted through a hospital) I still have so much to learn about the art of photography! Thank you for being such an awesome mentor!

Hey Fenna, I'm not a full time photographer but working on turning this passion into a business. My point is simply: take of this comment what you'd like ;). I personally go back and forth using a prime or zoom. I end up liking my primes slightly better for newborn, as I really like playing around with the bigger aperture... The main reason however is that it's the perfect opportunity to do the zooming yourself with the advantage of the crisp result of the prime glass. I actually do use the Sigma Art 50 mm f/1.4, combined with the Tamron SP 90mm F/2.8. for macro shots. As you have previously said you already use the 90mm, so I can only recommend the addition of the 50mm. I've compared my 35mm Nikon with the Sigma 50, and I prefer the latter. Love the bokeh and the aforementioned crisp of the things you actually do want in focus. If you do however prefer the distortion, you might want to look at the wider ART lens of 35mm... I don't really have experience with that one. If it's anything like the 50mm or even my 24-35mm F/2 however, I think you will love it.

Hi I just love your videos I have learned so much. and your photos are so beautiful. My question is I have a crop Canon camera and I am trying to find comparable lens to the 24-70mm 2,8 for newborn photos . I do have a 50mm prime but I rather not use a prime. I would appreciate any suggestions, I was also looking at the Sigma and Tamron lens.

So you have not kept your Sigma 105? I guess when you like the more wider focal length it's not what you're looking for. And you are not so close to the baby anymore, having to do more movement to change poses. I bought the 105 resently and love it. Hint: the 40mm Art is a bit better than the 50mm. But it is also more expensive.

I use my Sigma Art 105mm all the time outdoors! It's my fav portrait lens at the moment. For me the focal distance I use for my newborns works best with how close I'm sitting to the newborn. I'm happy with what I currently use!

If you are happy with your gear, that's perfect! ^_^ I often hear people say: The gear doesn't matter. But for me, it the tools feel clumsy, hard to handle, give mediocre results or just feel bad in the hands, I am less enthusiastic taking photos. Good tools are part of the fun. A small one, but hey... ;o)
