Have owned my ST2 for just over 6 years (October 2012 - bought it right when it first came out). Currently have 103k miles on it. Under warranty had both the Transmission and turbo replaced at 50k miles. Transmission had bad synchro in 2nd gear which was a pretty common issue with the early ones, turbo had unexplained catastrophic failure. Out of pocket expenses were new high pressure fuel pump (bought a used one and installed myself that was $75 repair). Also had to replace evaporative emission solenoid ($40 part installed myself). Finally a rear stabilizer link which was $15, did the other side proactively so lets say $30. Other than that just the usual tires, brakes, oil changes, broken fog light, new shocks/struts. I don’t abuse it, but i certainly have some fun with it. Always do pennzoil platinum full synthetic oil change every 5k miles and always run 93 octane fuel. I got the lifetime warranty break pads the first time i changed them so I’ve had 3 sets now after only paying for one. It does eat tires pretty quickly would be my main complaint but overall very happy
@jorgemiranda56666 жыл бұрын
Carl Griffiths quick question so the pennzoil platinum is good oil,the dealer did my first oil change free,but I’m going to do them myself from now on barley reaching 10k on my 2018 st

You are lucky. I had an engine go at 55k, struts and shocks go at 33k and 60k, tie rods, ball joints, control arms, sway links and bushings all were crap after 60k miles, and I had steering rack issues still and tram lining and my center of steering was off when I got rid of it. Luckily I got into an Is 350. The focus was fun though. Very fun.
@ftnppg12725 жыл бұрын
I should probably include that I had only ford racing tune, exhaust, intake, and Eibach sport springs on until they leaked second time and then went to coilovers. So that may have played roll. The ford racing tune was questionable as far as long term damage on engine. I blame it for pre ignition damage to number 1 cylinder.

Got my 2018 ST1 4 months ago, have 5k miles on it. My Dad bought me a brand new Mercury Comet in 1970 with a manual, 4 speed (red with black interior). Now 49 years later I own a 2018 Ford ST Chili Pepper Red with black interior, it's FUN too! Didn't know it was such a popular little car until I read a bunch of reviews on KZbin. I'm an old lady now, but I still like the stick shift (cause I refuse to pay $5k for a no good automatic transmission, rebuild). Anyhow, it's fun to drive 0 to 60 in less than 6 seconds. And I need a fast little car that gets me from point A to B pretty fast, if need be.

Well Gjeebs I have had my 1st real problem with my ST3. At 73,000 miles the fuel rail sensor went bad which made the fuel pump run overtime and fried it. Both were replaced by the Ford dealer and I had them do their 3 stage valve de-gunk process for a cool $200 bucks for a total of $1000.00 hit to my wallet. Let’s not forget the 6 days it was in the shop. Rental car @ $40.00/day.....another $240.00 for a grand total of $1,240.00. Ugly. But my going on 6 years old baby runs and looks close to new and she has been extremely reliable overall. Nice video of your experience so far.

First off, I believe one should purchase a vehicle whose performance is acceptable in stock form, then proceed with caution if you must. The carbon build-up occurs on the backside of the intake valves specifically because fuel does not pass through in the intake to get into the cylinder, that's why it's called direct injection. So any fuel or additive designed to clean will make no difference because it is injected directly into the cylinder and never touches the back side of the intake valves. If it really bothers you, you can add port injection, but I wouldn't bother with that, your engine will die from ringland failure before your valves are gummed up to the point of causing issues.

Have a 2014 ST3. Problems? Nada! Nothin! Nyet! Nope! Nah! Naw! Nein! I'm totally surprised as it's my very first domestic branded vehicle I've owned in 25-yrs. Swore off the domestics because of the experience my family had when I was a kid growing up. 'Murican cars in our experience were reliability nightmares, so when I was old enough to get my own, I wanted to get a reliable car so have had Japanese and German (I know, I know, "reliable") cars exclusively. This is also the cheapest car I've ever bought, so that it is the both the cheapest (cost and maintenance) and currently has a 100% reliability trackrecord with me. . .I'm happy. I bought the extended factory warranty with the lighting coverage also, so bumper to bumper AND the lighting group (those LED nacelles can cost a bomb if they need to be replaced for some reason), so I'm covered for 8-yrs total. Never held on to a car for 8 yrs, but I find that I'm in no rush to trade this one in just yet. Totally agree with you on the steering-wheel, I wish it were thicker like my prior Audi S4. Also agree with jonesin' for 4/all wheel drive next. I live where it snows and I gotta account for that, and I'm starting to miss a bigger car if I'm being honest. But I can't complain if I'm being honest. Nothing at all to complain about. One of the most positive ownership experiences I've ever had!

I have a 13ST with ST2 package that i recently bought thats race red and first thing im going to do is put the Konig Myth Red Black Custom Rims on it then ill put the flowmater exhaust on it afterwards then go from there on deciding what ill do to it afterwards. The car had 91k on it and got it for 10k here where i live. No dents or scratches on it pretty clean looking car love the way it rides n how smooth it is. Just wanting change rims out to make my car different to stand out more from the others since they all pretty much have the same snowflake wheel. Oh forgot gotten the 1552 front cup spoiler kit and had them painted race red and installed on my front bumper gives it that more aggressive look in the front

I just bought a ‘15 st and it had some mods that make the drivability great, like mishimoto intercooler, Sway bar, wheels and tires just small stuff. I could not be happier and I agree with your assessment, however just today one of the hoses on the intercooler blew off and I’ve got to put it back on but it’s an amazing car and if anyone has a chance I think you should get one
@Gjeebs4 жыл бұрын
Get T clamps for your hoses and that won’t happen. Happened to me too
@theiceman64564 жыл бұрын
Gjeebs thanks for the advice, I will definitely get some t clamps, but I figured out the reason it came off was because the previous owner didn’t have the intercooler bolted to the bracket it was sitting on and I was moving around. I’m still going to get t clamps to keep it from happening again

Good video Gjeebs I owned my 15 ST3 for nearly 2 years before jumping into a 17 RS I love the platform the only thing I can say was annoying was the check light coming on every 2-3 days due to the carbon buildup it’s a known issue on forums but it got excellent gas mileage and was a very nice car to daily. Now I am seeing the RS now a lot more reasonably priced in the used car market if not you have the climate in Arizona I would jump into an M2 awd is amazing for me but I’m in Canada 🇨🇦 if I was in Arizona hands down M2 is car i would go with and maybe keep the ST for daily driving.

Hey gjeebs, I’m also a st owner. Given the chance to start over would you buy the ford calibration or the Cobb ap? I’m at this crossroad right now. The ford calibration gives lots of torque and moves the horsepower sooner in the rpm range. I mostly commute with this car and have a little fun here and there. Have Cobb 3” catback, getting catted downpipe. Cold air intake, cpe rmm v2. Thanks for sharing any experiences.
@Gjeebs5 жыл бұрын
I just like that Ford Developed their calibration so it takes a lot of the risk out of getting a tune. Because the car is my daily I have to keep it reliable so anytime I upgrade it I consider that. If it were a second car maybe I would be more aggressive. The Cobb will give you more more feedback and is customizable where the ford calibration you just put it on and that’s it

Bought a 2016 st3 new and it was an extremely fun car. Unfortunately, it suffered from a number of quality control issues. O2 sensor failed at 5K, seized to the cat and ford had to replace the entire cat. At 26k steering wheel leather pealed and ford replaced the wheel. The moment I got in the car when picking it up from the steering wheel issue, the HVAC fails. Car stayed at ford dealer for 3 months because they could not source the parts to fix it and refused to take an HVAC unit from a new model in their fleet. Thankfully, they gave me a rental for that entire time. Headliner came apart and rattled constantly, suspension squeaks occurred, and Recaro seats would creak and move when maneuvering around hard turns. I eventually sold the car at 30K.

I wish this didn't make me sound so stupid, I currently drive an 09 P71 and thought of trading for a Fiesta or Focus ST until I started hearing horror stories about how messed up the valves got on cars with direct injection and that it was made much worse with the addition of turbochargers. I got the impression that engines like those in the ST models started dying a not too slow death after about 36,000 miles. Yet there are so many positive comments about these cars...

Can come with a 3inch catless downpipe and an accessport Got other small mods like sound symposer delete and fswerks short shifter with solid shift cable bushings and solid shift mounts And I also have a Cobb RMM that’s not on the car"" its red and looks clean. @jameslynch69136 жыл бұрын
The only thing the fuel would help with is possibly it burns cleaner. That's it. It happens because you are no longer injecting fuel before the intake valve like older fi systems or carburetors. If it has not given you a problem its probably just a luck the tune really makes no difference. Off boost driving is off boost driving it will pretty much act the same with or with out a tune or what tune it has. If anything the Ford performance tune would be the worst. Last I checked it was set at 28psi of boost which uses the most fuel under full throttle. So richer and more carbon.

I have a 16 st focus with about 48k miles, bought it new and I take care of it pretty well. Since I've had it, i kinda feels like ive had problems. Around 18k had a check engine with a reading of a misfire in cylinder 3. Ford didnt know the reason, they decided to change the gasket and fuel injectors. Seemed to get rid of the check engine but my car still gives me rough idle from time to time. Had a clutch replaced around 20k. I dont abuse my car. My A/C went out around 26k. At 40k my alternator went out. At the moment I've been getting an engine fault alert on my car every once in a while. When this happens the car sounds like shit and there is a complete loss of power. My car only has a cat back exhaust. Havent done any other modifications. I love my car but feels like I've had issues since I got it.

I owned my focus st3 for 3 years now its sold but , my personal preference I think the focus st3 isnt the greatest, I did upgrade mine alot and still just got bored of it. It honestly is not a great daily car. Reason why is because how bad they honestly drive . They are very bumpy. I bought a ecoboost mustang and have been upgrading it and it has some great power, and it drives 5x better. It handles insanely well and it shifts so much better than the focus st. Do I hate the focus st? (NO NOT AT ALL) I'm just putting in my opinion.

I have a 2016 ST3 and it’s been a great car so far. 24k with a Ford Performance exhaust, green filter, and FSWerks 93 octane tune. The one thing that has annoyed me have been the seats, well really just the driver’s seat.. I had to place some Whiteline links under the seat to correct the lateral shifting of the seat and then tighten the 4 bolts (also using some Loctite) under the seat cover as these started to loosen slightly and cause the seat tray to shift. It’s solid now with these fixes, but it was kind of annoying for a while. Have you had any of these issues with your seats?

@decendantsmedia16466 жыл бұрын
Vipz336 I own a 2017 ST3 and I am also a technician for ford. Any intercooler will work with or without a tune. The only reason a tune will help is to use the added efficiency to its fullest. I have heard good things about the ford performance calibration but it is important to note that a tune from mountune is also warrantable if you are worried about that.
