Your strength as a single mom with two autistic boys making it work…there is purpose behind it. My fiancé and I just discovered we’re pregnant, we’ve stumbled on the way to our marriage date, and I’ve been afraid. I’m tempted to believe the enemy’s lies that God doesn’t love us anymore, that our love isn’t real, that our lives are over, that our families will hate us, that it’s all my fault. I need God and His grace, I can’t do a moment of my life without His constant help, I call on Him in my hours of need. I love this woman, His daughter, with all my heart. I love our families, I love the baby growing in her tummy, I love everyone we have to support us. I’m afraid of the enemy trapping us in shame, when God’s grace is enough. Hearing that you’re doing it, even though it’s hard, makes me all the more grateful that she and I have each other, God, and our support, and all the more assured that even in the absence of all of it, if we had God alone and none of these gifts, we would still be okay and pull through because you our sister in Christ is setting that tone. I just want you to know that disabled people, especially mentally disabled people, have felt like they don't belong in the church for a long time because of things like this. I pray that you open your mind and heart to the Church's responsibility for the poor and marginalized, because not fulfilling that responsibility is a scandal to many.

We had a flood. I am a drug and alcohol counselor in an outpatient clinic for opioid dependency.That terrible morning as I got to work I just asked God to help me take care of my clients. I was one of the only counselors to make it to work. I started making calls to clients when a supervisor walked by with a confused look on his face, ‘how are you calling patients?’ My phone was the only phone working in the building. The front desk phone was down and that means I should not have been able to call out. I have no doubts that God was letting me know he is absolutely present.

I’m 55 I was at the end of my rope and in a really scary place in October. @@thisgirl5933 That sounds an awful lot like OCD. I know because I have it. It's nothing to be ashamed of and is absolutely treatable. There are saints who had it too, such as Ignatius of Loyola. Sister, I suggest you look into it as it is absolutely treatable, and I'll be praying for you.

@@po18guy Oh I do what I can. Unfortunately instead of leading us in praise through singing, some of our choirs think they are performing for us. Simple songs in a lower key is what most people prefer. A natural pace not piously slow or crazy fast. Predictable melodies are the best - for the psalm too! I used to belong to a Spirit filled Catholic Church that truly brought a revival to our city. I would find myself singing the psalms through the week! The church was full early - including the front. No one came late - I could go on and on.

I'm taking it to my grave that nuns are real-life super heroes. They'll deny it all they want, but I see little superheroes in every single one of them, and Sr. Mary Grace is no exception. I do think we need to be careful though, because letting desires run rampant outside the life of a faithful, or even laity, can be dangerous. It's good to seek desires, so long as the intention and will of our desires are in alignment with God's. @peekaboots01, I've been right there where you are. I'm 52, unmarried and no children. I wasted most of my life looking at everyone else in my family and wanting to be just like them - married with children, nice house, nice cars, and a job I loved that paid very well. The trouble was God had a very different purpose/profession for me. All my life no man wanted anything I had to offer, and I just couldn't understand it, especially when I looked at the girls they were choosing. And then I kept hearing the verse "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart" (Jeremiah 1:5). I began praying on that verse and asking God to show me what it meant for my life. And He began leading me to this verse: "Delight yourself also in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord, trust also in Him, and He will bring it to pass. He will bring forth your righteousness as the light, and your justice as the noonday" (Psalms 37:4-6). I knew them that if I continued to look at anyone other than God to have what my heart wanted, I would be lost. So every day, I gave my heart to Him in prayer and asked Him to fill it, to change it, to mould it into what He made it for back before He formed me in my mother's womb. And the greatest thing began to happen. He began to do exactly that. My desires (for husband, children, and home) started changing. They didn't go away; they just aligned with His desires. And His desires, I would learn personally, are always for my good and my happiness in Him. And now I understand what my profession is, and what's more I am truly fulfilled in it. I am a bride of Christ, a mother of more children than I can count (I work with our youth at church), I have a wonderful home that I have been able to make into my own, and I have every need met by my gracious and loving Father in heaven as well. It begins with surrender. God moves swiftly when we daily surrender our wants, hopes, and plans to Him. All this He has done for me in only 2 years' time. And every day, He delights to bring me something new to bless me and challenge me in a way I didn't know I needed. Every day I wake up excited to see what He will do next in me. So please don't be discouraged. Please don't believe the lie that there is no hope. There is ALWAYS hope in surrender. ❤

One key that has buttressed the church through centuries of different pressures is to know primarily - the fulfillment, as the sister said at 3:16 or so - may only be heaven. "For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time [our life in this world] are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us [when we see the Lord and are glorified like Him]," Romans 8:18. This life is perseverance for the sake of others knowing Jesus.
