Very informative. I accidentally shortcircuited my 2i2 2nd gen as well. Accidentally routed a line signal into the right Main output. I heard a crackling and the sound gave out, but only on that channel. It hasn't been working since. I assume a circuit or chip is burned, as you described. Tbh I was planning on buying a new DAC anyways, the problem with the non-BUS DACs, like the 2i2 is that you always need it to do a handshake with a computer, so it's no good for standalone use.

I'm trying to diagnose similar issues with my board; it powers on and the computer recognizes it, but no signal. Focusing on the CS4272 chip, I'm probing pin 20 (VA) and 21 (AGND). Both seem to be connected to GND and pin 20 (VA) gives no voltage when board has power. I'm assuming that I have a short circuit somehwere? Perhaps a blown cap? Did you happen to record the voltage values that you measured on the various chips?

There is no schematic. I checked it with scarlet 2i2. USB Plug is direct connected to main controller, but there are no replacements. Sorry.

do you have a shematic for this board? my issue it is that on the headphones output only work the left one... no sound on the right... i change the capacitors and sounds better but there is no noise on the right side, i check the resistors and theu are right... what could be the problem? i think may be its the max4427 its the only IC that dirves that ouputs

Hi Joachim, thanks for doing this video. I have a 2nd Generation 2i4 that gets absolutely no power when plugged into USB. I have a multimeter, so my thought was to follow the signal flow of the power from the USB to the areas you highlight to see where the power stops, but I'm not very adept with a multimeter and not sure what I should measure or what setting I should have it on. The board is very similar to this one. The area that you're highlighting for power smells like something 'blew up', but I see no sign of any blown capacitors on the board. Do you have any suggestions? I suspect this is likely a blown capacitor/s that I'd be happy to replace (I know how to solder).

Thanks for asking. Measure DC Voltage 5V. From PC to USB interface are send 5V through the cable. So, you must find 5V DC at the plug of the interface. If not then the cable or the PC has the problem. By finding 5V go to voltage converter chip SIL97519 and look for +5v and -5v. Download the audiochip pdf file and find out the 3.3v line number pin and measure it. CAUTION Be safe to make no short circuit and break no lines. You can use a very fine needle for connecting to the chip pins.

USB3343 is a power controller. Not USB. USB controller what we are interested in is a XMOS chip. 4066 is a badly well known source of distortions. Considering high specs of the device, it's not used in a signal path

Hlo.. my sound card is showing a very dim green power light And when I connect it with the cable.. it doesn't show any lights on the gain knobs.. however 48W is working.. speakers are working.. but it is not connecting to my computer.. Seems there is something wrong with USB connection, cable or USB port, perhaps internal, plug connector. Try to use a different computer or USB port and other cable. Perhaps driver problem. When you are fit with electronics you can open and do some measurements. Don't make short circuit.

What part is "U1" ? Is this the big square chip in the middle ? This is a flashed microcontroller, for this one you can't get a replacement. Only from an other interface. I have no schematic and no picture of the board.

U1 must have a short name printed on it. You can reffer to a table by web search, this is available for transistors. "6As" is "BC817" for example.

My 2i2 is not going on imiditily I plug it to my PC it's taking hours, and then turns on the 48power first then eventually it turns on, can this be fixed and it heats up a lot near the dc controller

I might be too late, by now you might have purchased a new one or got it repaired, but i am here to tell you something that seems silly .. i received a renewed 2i2 with input 1 not working / very low sound or distorted.. i came to the comments after the video and it gave me an idea after reading these comments .. i connected my device placed it upside down on the table suddenly i noticed input 1 flickering on and off then i realized that the courier delivery guys might have played FIFA2022 with my 2i2. i kept the card connected and turned it upside down and slapped it in different directions from gentle to moderate only on the metal body. luckily the loose part made contact.. i ran some signal through input 1 and confirmed the connection is stable than i gently turned it to its right side up crossing my fingers.. but the signal is good then i tested with xlr and line in various times and its working.. (if you know how you have dropped it you could give a similar shock on the opposite side.. )

Hi Braian, I have exactly the same problem as you. I have a 2i4 1st gen, blinks when connected, then USB led stays on, computer recognizes it, but I can't get any signal in or out... I'll try to get an oscilloscope and try to work out what's the problem once I have a bit of time. Let's see if we can find the problem

U9 is Intersil ISL97519A. I have no schematic. Refer the ISL97519A manual for the MOS-FET function.

I removed broken ISL97519A and tr8 from the board. The sound card began to work correctly. Phantom power +48 V is turned off. But I don't use it in my work.

The 2i 2 range are very problematic..i was better of using a audio box then the focusrite.. I have a issue now where it keeps disconnecting and reconnecting by it self on windows.. Did all the Windows power settings but nothing seems to work.. Now I am assuming that it might be a hardware problem from the device or the computer.. Can't figure out what causing this issues.. Changing cables didn't work..this unit was showing this problem within the 1st week i bought it.. But now it is just more frequent and unusuable..

All the last yrs USBs on mainboards have a self reseting fuse for over Ampere. USB max is 1 Ampere. Your fault look for that. Something inside the interface could draw more than 1 Amp.

My 2i2 is no longer recognized with any computer. I need your help. Can changing the USB Type B Port solve the problem? All of the LEDs are working when I connect. Even +48V and gain leds are working when plugged. PS: I have seen Turkish words on that note paper. Where are you living? I'm in İstanbul/Turkey. Can I reach you somehow? I don't have any money to spend on a new soundcard and my album project is stopped :(

You should use a different computer and/or an other usb cable. If this won't work then I think one of the digital chips is demaged. Perhaps there is a cold lead in the plug on board. Maybe you you have a driver fault on your computer.

Joachim Tiefnig I have tried 3 different cables and 3 different computers. Also tried drivers. A Focusrite worker lead me through the steps. We did it twice. It sounds really weird that a "recognizing" issue is caused by a faulty usb type b port but I have seen 3 people changing it then it works. Any experience about it? Hayır. Benimki 2i2'de şöyle oldu. 2014/12 yapımı 1st Gen kart. 2 sene sorunsuz kullandım. Sonra bir akşam her zamanki gibi USByi taktım. Hata verdi. " Windows cannot recognize the last device you have plugged" gibi bir şeydi. Yani tanımadı kartı. Focusrite ile iletişime geçtim. Ordan bir adamla baya 2 saat kadar uğraştık. Kendisi maille dosya falan gönderdi indirdim kurdum sildim vs. olmadı. Aradan 1 ay geçti bir daha attım mail bir daha denedik. Tamir ettirecek bir yer de bulamadım İstanbulda. Karttı takınca tüm ledler bir yanıp sönüyordu normalde. Yine aynı şekilde yanıp sönüyor. 48 volt ışığı da yanıyor. Cihaz aslında sağlam da işte USB portunda bir sıkıntı var sanırım. Bir kaç kişi değitirmiş YouTUbe'da yabancı. Çalıştırıyorlar. 3 4 tl bişey o da. Ben de alıp değiştirecem (inanasım gelmiyor ölçü cihazıyla kontrol ettim çünkü. Orası da sağlam gibi duruyor) yoksa çöp oldu. 6 aydır duruyor öyle. Bu meretler de pahalı yenisini alamıyorum. Gönül ister ki bir RME falan alalım...

No, sorry I've no schematic. The MAX4427 is not your problem. This is a dual MOS-FET driver. Check the names on the IC's and take a look for manufacturer manual of this IC. It can be a poti or a chip. Look for an analog chip eg. an op or any other audio chip.

I now have the same problem with my Scarlett 2i2. I believe it was a result of plugging the output of the interface into a mixing desk (for live use) and after this there is no signal from any input/output. The interface is still recognized in windows and reaper, and will even 'play' audio as displayed by the audo levels in reaper's mixer / pc sound... but there is no signal whatsoever coming from the interface. Upon plugging in a microphone / guitar into either input, there are no halo light gain indicators and no input level whatsoever also. most people says that I burnt out the capacitors inside in Scarlett, due to phantom power perhaps being left turned on on the mixing desk. if so.. what should i check ? what should i buy ?

I have this exact same problem on my 2i4. I used to use a condenser mic on it and the phantom power probably damaged the board. I still can hear a very low and distorted sound if I connect Scarlett on Linux and set the volume higher than 100%. Warranty is over and I really want to recover my Scarlett.

@@arthurguitarra87 No, I got a multimeter and measured some capacitors that the Scarlett support team asked me to measure. Baseline / Measured Across C44: 3V3 / 3.24V Across C46: 1V / 1V Across C193: +5V / +0.91V Across C194: -5V / +0.41V Across C195: 48V / 47.3V (phantom power turned on and off) So, it seems that the problem is related to C193 and C194 which are simple capacitors that can be replaced. I haven't replaced them though because I don't have any soldering tool.

Do you have an oszilloscop ? follow the signal. enter right and left the same signal. Use chip file pdf for each same chip to know input and output. You can use also any other amplifier for the signal to listen to it.

Maybe there is something wrong with USB (cable or controller), otherwise the main controller of the scarlet is demaged. If possible check the DC-DC step down converters 5V to 3.3V for making sure this controller get power.

It sound to me that the USB connector on the board has a brocken wire. If you are fit to check this and fix it. There are fine smd structures. Take great care. By dropping down normaly no further electrically problem shoud happen.

I had a same problem and take me a bit of time to find a problem. Problem was faulty MC74HC4066A Quad Analog Switch/ Multiplexer/Demultiplexer on input One.Desoldering that Focusrite start working again (I get Output signal+Input signal on Input 2).After purchesing new hc4066 and soldering to place (in 1) i get IN1 also working and a full working device again.I hope i helped a bit..

This is it. This is most often the correct answer in case of a shorted Scarlett. I shorted my 2i2 with a condenser mic via XLR (still wondering how that could've happened). The interface was still recognized by the computer but no I/O worked. After removing the MC74HC4066AG from channel one (where the first XLR went into), everything worked normally again except for channel 1. I bought another HC4066 and soldered it in - Now everything's back to normal!
