I am Dutch and understood most of what is said here. But you really really have to listen very good to see the similarities between Danish and Dutch. The comment on the football was of course gibberish and no Dutch at all. Funny how many people of both countries seem to think both languages are so different when in reality they are very close as is evidenced by the many Danish players talking fluent Dutch in a matter of only a few months...

i must agree on that, i was on vacation last year in America on a big cruiship called Harmony of the seas... i went along with a friend, and we're from denmark. On a sightseeing on of the islands (a jeep tour along the island) we went along with this older couple from Florida... And they thought we were Dutch aswell cuz the language seemed were familiar wich each other.. According to them that is :)

It's a Danish talkshow.. The blond guy (a comedian called Brian Lykke) once sat with one of his friends called Simon Kvamm (from a Danish band called Nephew) watching a soccer game, where they suddenly turned down the volume and started pretending they were some Dutch comentators commenting the game. Of course it was gibberish, because they don't speak Dutch at all.. but - as Brian says - the Dutch language have a lot of German words that's just being pronounced in a different way, and it sounds a little like Danish too sometimes.. so if you just mix these two languages (German and Danish) and add the Dutch G-sound, it may sound a lot like Dutch... well, at least it would to Danish people, but to the Dutch people it would of course sound like crap... en het spijt me. ;)

Even pretend-Dutch is easier to understand than Danish
