I want to have a peek at a Penske rental contract.
@Roger__Wilco6 жыл бұрын
Astroflight it would be just the same as from every rental place - you have insurance but damage from overhead strikes is specifically not covered and the renter has to pay for 100% of the repair cost.
@Tedd7556 жыл бұрын
I wonder if they verbally warn each renter about the bridge and that they WILL hit it if going that way.

I went to their website. *There's no way to find out the truck clearance heights on the Penske website.* They'll tell you the internal storage capacity, but not what @#$%ing bridges it'll get stuck under. It's like they actually WANT such accidents to occur, because they sure avoid giving potential customers the information they'd need to avoid them. Supposedly the contract you sign tells you that you're responsible for any overheight collisions, but having seen how assiduously the website avoids telling you this information, I suspect the contract is also suspiciously void of what the height limit is for the particular vehicle you're renting.

I notice that the majority of the trucks are rental trucks. Are there rental places on that road that rent out these trucks. And if so, one thing that they should make a priority is to tell the renters not to go that way, or to tell them about that bridge. Because obviously they don't have enough sence to realize they can't make it under...or don't have enough knowledge of the truck they are driving.
@chartle16 жыл бұрын
The rental companies can be anywhere in the area even out of state but in reality 1,000s of rental trucks probably drive by here every day only a hand full a year get hair cut. Maybe the ones that don't hit the bridge are rented locally and are told about this bridge. But they can only go so far. There are probably quite a few of these low clearance areas that also get hit. They just don't have cameras on them 24/7 and a youtube channel. Its just better to follow all the signs that in and outside the truck giving you the clearance.

These ones with pedestrians all around always make me nervous when those big chunks of shrapnel go flying. As entertaining as this bridge is, I'm so happy it got raised! You don't see crashes this severe anymore
@danburch99896 жыл бұрын
Relating to the comments about lowering the roadway, besides the underground utilities, the cost would be borne by the city. N/S St Gregson St is a local roadway. However, it certainly can be done. It's a question of money and who has it and the possibility of who wants to sacrifice their property (no one does unless they can make a lot of money from it). AZ lowered Grand Ave at Glendale Ave through Glendale AZ by about 30 feet. This reduced traffic congestion when a train came through the 6-point intersection. It is now a 4-point intersection.
@ChristopherUSSmith5 жыл бұрын
It's part of a federally funded business route, so the highway portion could be done with a big chunk paid by Washington, and the rail line portion by USDoT infrastructure improvement money.

If a crash is severe enough, a truck can go past the beam and clip the bridge. So the rail company has to come inspect it every time.
