I might be wrong though (about the notes i'm pretty sure). Lots of fun here and lots of techniques applied. Some fills may take some time. Best to practice them separately and slowly. Song is in A Major with some usual differences taken from the A Blues Scale, you can see that the line is constantly hitting a C Natural instead of #, creating the ambiguity of minor/major 3rd, common in blues forms. This affects the harmony also. Honestly the bass on the whole Fool for the City album is top notch, its a shame people seem to forget about Foghat, they had some real nice ones.

I didn't really think much of this song until I played it on guitar hero on bass isolated. I had a bass that looked like yours. It was used and had mad neck warping, I had to adjust how I would play in order to avoid the bad frets (4th fret was pretty bad). I didn't have money to fix it so I just lived with it. To this day I avoi the 4th fret despite having a new bass.

I think Nick Jameson should get way more credit for his bass playing than he does. That slap part in verses is WICKED! Not very complicated in technical sense but fantastically thought out. Beside, who else used slapping outside funk and maybe disco back then? Really great stuff.

Funny enough this is probably the best slap bass lick to learn for beginners. Simply enough once you break it down its all octaves. There is a few tricky fills but thats it.

If I remember right, the longer version with the bass stuff is the live version from Foghat Live album. They used to play it on the radio alot back in the day. I love this song either way. Nice bass cover.
