All you haters are IDIOTS! I grew up in Richmond and used to hear this foghorn blowing at night warning the maritime traffic of the hazard of the Brothers. The low frequency of the horn assured further travel of the sound. And it was omnidirectional. Also it sounded at a certain interval so that mariners could identify which location it was coming from. Thanks for the excellent video.

Classic machinery. The Caterpillar D3400 diesel pony motor might be better served if the fuel was shut off instead of just the magneto switch. As a stationary application, there's less chance gasoline will find its way into the pony crankcase but why risk it?

It's electric! What you saw was a nightmare electric motor driving a flywheel that drove a piston that compresses a ton of air into a tank. That air is then released to make the sound. It's all electric and pneumatic, no carbon tax needed.
