Terrific video for the BGE. You covered more practical directions for the BGE in fourteen minutes than most experts do in an hour! Enjoy all the videos. Also, all of the video lessons will work on any grill.

My husband was a HUGE BGE fan. He brought his first Kamado in Japan on his way home from Vietnam in the mid 60's. We carried it around the countryside until the movers dropped it off our patio in Tennessee. Huge disappointment. Years later we saw the BGE ads, and bought one. After retirement we carried it in our motor home. A huge crowd gathered whenever Bill was cooking. After several years in the motor home, it was hard to lift it out of the lower compartments, so we bought the smaller one at an ACE Hardware store in Navarre, FL When we built our new house in Washington, Bill built an outdoor kitchen with a space for yet another BGE. He was a fabulous cook. We had lots of company when grilling. My heart aches now that Bill has passed away and our THREE BGEs sit unused. We had every intention of going to the Eggfest this past year. I enjoy watching your videos but still haven't tried cooking in it. Maybe someday.

Thanks for sharing, & condolences. You seemed to enjoy sharing the story & have such a long experience with BGE/kamado, that if you ever feel up to it, I’d encourage you to consider making a video about some BGE/grilling insights you & your husband found in all those years. Experience based information like that is hard to find!

My Father-in-law passed last May and I have been put in charge of the Turkey for Thanksgiving. It will be my Mother-in-laws first Thanksgiving and Christmas without her Husband so I am going to channel his spirit and try to cook the turkey on his BGE. Great video and tips. I’ve been playing with charcoal amounts. And 1 chimney full plus a double handful is plenty to cook slow for 3-1/2 hours. If I fill it full like you did trying to keep low temps is work. They are so efficient. I only use 1 starter under the chimney and don’t let it get too hot. 2 wads of old newspaper is plenty to get it going nice and free. Otherwise it will be over temp in 5 minutes. I leave the coals in a slight mound and let fire spread from there. A metal bucket a wire charcoal basket is a simple set that everyone should have for any Kamado red green black Ect. I asked multiple Kamado video producers for help with fire size questions and never got a response. That left over charcoal may be out in 10 minutes but hot for much much longer.

I learned the most from your video than from so many others I have watched. I get a lot of recipes that say to remove a grill like the stainless steel and replace it with the heavier grill, but it never explains where to place a hot grill. When we remove it we set it awkwardly beside the egg but I think this is dangerous, especially when company are at the house.

@@FOGOcharcoal I would love a suggestion. I saw a video with just a cast iron-looking round plate, like a large green egg-shaped flat pancake griddle. A person removed a grill and placed it on this cast-iron platter. I guess we could place some cinder blocks by the green egg but I would love to have a solution that I could keep outside by the egg. (without spending lots of money).

There does exist stainless steel leg-attached accessories called grate racks that allow you to store plates, grates and other things directly below the grill itself. Third party of course, but cheap and does precisely what you’re asking.

Eggcellent review! One minor detail to point out (and perhaps someone has already commented) the proper orientation of the convEGGtor is with one of the legs located directly at the front of the egg. This helps divert air flow and heat to the sides of the space where the thermometer is located in the cover when closed.

I just brought home a XL BGE today and your videos are very helpful. Coming from cooking on a Traeger, which is set and forget, your videos are really helping me better understand how to use my new egg. I can't wait to start cooking on this beauty! Thanks again!

2 years later how do you like the BGE compared to the Traeger? As in the smoking capabilities and consistency?
@Luigiz28
@Luigiz28 11 ай бұрын
@@NoSend901 I hate to say it, but I love both and use both fairly often. I like the Traeger due to its ease of use which is nice on work nights or when I don't have a lot of time to get charcoal fired up. When I have more time, I always use the BGE and I can taste the difference when I do. For smoking capabilities, the BGE will give you more smoke flavor but the Treager is no slouch. Hope this helps.

I’ve got an old heat gun that works fabulously for lighting the lump coal. Position at the 12, 3, 6, and 9 o’clock positions for about 1 minutes each until sparks start to fly. You could buy the heat guns from green egg but I had one sitting around for years not getting much use and gave it a new purpose.

Great video Ron-some helpful tips even after years of BGE use! Also learned that BGE made limited edition blue eggs-always thought that was BGE’s competition in your EGG arsenal!
