I love the rear view at the end, after the landing, where we see all the "rudder work" and get an appreciation of the skills required to handle such a plane. Thank you!

Wow...That was so cool to see. Since I was a kid, and building these airplanes as models, I've wondered what it was like to actually fly in one. One thing you don't realize how exposed the pilots were....Grass roots flying at it's best...Thanks for an awesome video.

Very cool video. I'd read this plan design was all about maneuverability over speed. I'd heard the ailerons being so high above roll center had a noticeable pendulum effect which I think I can see in the tail as the pilot banks to each side at 3:48. Notice the entire fuselage appears to swing back and forth beneath the upper wing like a pendulum. Ground handling seems uncharacteristically excellent for a Fokker Dr1. Maybe longer tail length to accommodate a modern engine weight? Steerable tail skid?
@KG722 жыл бұрын
👍. What plans your Fokker was built from? Few years ago I asked Michael Carson for his plans but was not willing to sell them.
@ericf41043 жыл бұрын
How do you even come across these planes anymore? I'm sure they're not originals from the early 1900's, so are they custom built or something? Judging by the materials it couldn't be too hard to make reproductions

The DR one has always been my favorite. Can a 6 foot 4 270 pound fit in it?
@knightsofthesky4 жыл бұрын
It would depend on how your plane is built. On mine, with the 80 Rhone, a 245 lb person would put the CG at 45% MAC, which is quite far aft. There are however, no established CG limits for Fokker Dr.1s...so as long as you dont mind be a test pilot of the first order, you can always give it a shot!

Sorry if this is an insulting question but is this a real dr1 or a scale replical? Also if it is a replica was it a kit?
@knightsofthesky6 жыл бұрын
Not at all offensive! There are no "real" Dr1s left in the world. Probably the most accurate replica is that of Mikael Carlson. The Dr1 in my video is a very nice build (not by me) and will soon be Le Rhone powered. The basic plans used in this build were created by Ron Sands. Pretty much every piece was hand made. My hat is off to anyone who builds one of these!

I really like the fact that this airplane is extremely stout, solid as a rock throughout your entire aerobatic routine. That has to say something about the design and construction of course, oh and the builder. Fantastic airplane and with a modern (sorta) radial you have reliability and a stunning aircraft! Hard to beat that combination. A real head turner. Thanks for posting.

Thanks! It now has a WWI Le Rhone rotary engine, but it did not when I made this video. I will make a new one now that the rotary engine is one it.

@@knightsofthesky Please do. The rotary engine introduces a whole dynamic that has to be insane to deal with.

Daniel Burgess an Immelmann in the modern sense of the maneuver is impossible in this plane. In WWI, the Immelmann turn was more like a win over than anything else.
