Folding Workbench / Folding Cutting Table

This is an easy to build, folding workbench that I am going to use as a cutting table for plywood and other sheet goods. When it is folded up it will only take up a space that is 32"x48" but folds out to a full 4'x8'.

this is an awesome design. i just created my own table, using your video as a tutorial. it's working wonderfully, and the continuous hinges are an inspired idea. you've helped this maker take his first foray into wood working, and create a useful work surface for an apartment with limited space.

Thanks for watching! I don't have an exact amount for the cost but I know it was less than $200. The foam is Extruded Polystyrene insulation commonly referred to as foam board insulation.

Thanks. I use polystyrene foam insulation. If you ask for foam insulation board at any hardware store they can point you in the right direction. Avoid using the white styrofoam made from the foam balls.

The foam is XPS insulation from any hardware store. Mine came from Lowes because I didn't want the pink that most places sell.

Hi, I'm looking to build a workbench and stumbled across this video. Yours like great and I'm thinking I'll probably copy this though this will be my first wood working since school. Can you tell me if there is a reason why you didn't want the legs to touch the floor in the closed position? I'm worried I won't be able to replicate that so wondering if I can just make everything square.

Thanks for the comment. The reason for the offset wheels was to make it easier to move around in the closed position. Now that I have been using it for several months I don't move it as much as expected. If I were to build it again I wouldn't not bother with the wheels being off the ground when closed.

What type and thickness of styrofoam do you use?

Thanks for the question. I use polystyrene insulation board. When this one wears out I will use 1" instead of the 2". I will email you as well.
