Evil is a rather broad brush stroke, corrupt ambitions through 'poisoning' the ears of the innocent. Pushing doubt to wash away loyalty, enterprising falsehood to make people bend to your will. Betrayal is just a matter of perception fuel by mistakes in ourselves and others.

I marvel that, after the 20th century and its' horrors, that there are actually people who think evil does not exist. Ask the victims of the Holocaust, of Stalin's purges, of Ted Bundy and 9/11 if evil is "a rather broad brush stroke." I thought Roderigo was described as young and stupid but is portrayed as old in this version?

Yes, Roderigo should be a civilian (so he has no access to the military) and young like Desdemona. Plus, good choice of name Des[demon]a.
