Ruan might be the most accessible way to get western musicians playing along. It really does have a rock or heavy metal sensibility in many songs. In fact I would like to see her play with a bluegrass musician like tony rice

Your comment makes her instrument look like a banjo

Since posting this I found out my idea is not original. Actually where Americans have bluegrass the Chinese have Redgrass. kzbin.info/www/bejne/bX2kfZqNr5WrmZI

I believe it is tuned G-D-G-D, so in fifths, just like bar chords in rock music.

True. I think the composer is a rock/metal fan, with a lot of blues/jazz stroke. I like his songs a lot. Have you ever heard this song from the composer? The player is amazing! kzbin.info/www/bejne/mauYe6qpedisi5osi=IYhXBf8jl9XiBLFL

My zhongruan arrived from China three days ago. I knew right away we were made for each other. And while I can already play a few cool riffs and licks, this lovely lady is like the Yngwie Malmsteen of zhongruans. Beautiful woman, song and instrument.

Try Dombra, an instrument from the Chinese Uygurs. It's suitable for folk and rock and roll.
