Wonderful, Joanie, your version from "Biko" is one of the best, I ever heard! For me, you are the most wonderful Folk Singer! I love you so!

Joen Baez sings this song better than anyone else, the feeling she puts into it sends it into another dimension. Such an important song, and Baez at her best. Quite a compelling combination.

These exact bagpipes haunted me from June thru mid August 1977, and then suddenly cut off (???). I couldn't find who it was that died, but knew he was an Angel (like Martin Luther King, Jr.) It surprised me to find out it happened in Sept. It must have been planned and set up to happen during those months, and set in stone by August. I was 15, and the eyes of the world were watching him. :x

This happened in Sept. 1977. He was a Journalist in Africa. Police beat him to death. You can look this up on Wikipedia.

Right. If Biko had a gun he would have outdrawn the officers and ridden off into the sunset.

@alanabrahams2232 i was raised on Joan Baez singing truth to power with her incomparable soprano voice. her version of Peter Gabriel's song Biko is amazing and i am grateful for her introduction to the man and his work, and to Peter Gabriel's song. Then i discovered Peter Gabriel's more recent version of Biko, with Playing For Change and i am completely blown away. So many fantastically talented people came together on the recording; the sight of Yo Yo MA brandishing his cello and bow against hate is poignant and powerful! please look it up.
