Isaac Butler, astrologer and diarist, deserves to be better known. His account of Termonfeckin Castle, for example, provides a rare insight into that lost residence of the archbishops of Armagh.

Indeed, he is one of a number of such writers whose work ought to be more widely known...

@@irishaesthete4332 I consulted his weather diary in the Gilbert Library during my PhD circa 2005; at the time the authorship hadn't been established, though their affiliation to either St Patrick's or St Nicholas Within (obviously based in the cathedral) seemed likely. He notes that St Patrick's flooded fairly regularly, describing up to a foot of water in the nave.

Nice video! I wonder if you've ever looked into what's being referred to as "Tartarian architecture?" It has the same features as the stuff you're showcasing here, for example, arches, pillars/columns, etc. Just because a building has "no discernable purpose," doesn't mean it doesn't, or didn't once, serve a purpose. I recommend also researching what's being called "antiquitech," which can be seen at 4:04 jutting above each arch. JonLevi's channel is my favourite for these ponderings. Just some food for thought for you. ✌️
