Wise men sought Jesus. They still do !
Epiphany: an awakening or a revelation. This is what happened to a group of Magi: very likely Persian stargazers who lived to the east of Israel. We don't know exactly what they saw in the sky which appeared and disappeared. Some say it was a conjunction of planets, some a comet, some a supernova: others a supernatural light specially for the event. In any case it drew them on a long journey, a mission eventually arriving at the house where Jesus had been born some weeks or months earlier.
In this program, first broadcast on Manx Radio in 2010, John Edwards looks at the revelation or epiphany which the Holy Spirit brings to us and enables us also to find Jesus and His salvation, healing and power.
Christmas ends traditionally on the 5th of January after the 12 days. Christians in the east give gifts and celebrate Christmas on the 7th in honour of the wise men. Epiphany Sunday is traditionally the Sunday after epiphany and the old ecclesiastical Christmas lasted until Candlemass, 40 days after Christmas day.
