I went to a store in Manassas VA and bought some relics including bullets from each side in the Civil War. I also got a "dug" US Calvary buckle and a pristine Artillery button said to have been brought in by an old lady in her sewing kit. All of the gold leafing is perfect on that artillery button. I keep it among my other "treasures".

its incredible to hold something that was last held by a civil war soldier so long ago. We always wonder who he was and did he make it home.

Whoever said brass doesn’t have a green patina must not have seen an old water spigot out by an old barn. 😂 I’m still looking for my first dug civil war bullet. I love seeing people dig them. That carved bullet is really neat. Great job, Heath.

My family had a map passed down from a relative in the Civil War showing a small hole shaft that has been covered by the same thin mossy covered rock since the Civil War. The Chickamauga battle field mows this spot all the time and never found it. It is full of civil war relics and firearms. Haven't been there in 18 years, but I found it last time I went. I put down a picnic blanket, and no one thought otherwise. I've never taken anything, but I think it's cool.

Folks that don’t appreciate older bullets or musket balls misunderstand all the detective work to find the site and windshield time to determine if it can be detected and finally the time to catch the owner at home and………hopefully secure a permission. If they walked the walk they would soooo….. appreciate each of those pieces of lead recovered. Good for y’all.

I didn't know that about the lead ingots. You'd think they would just keep the lead as bullets instead. Nothing like tactically casting bullets in the middle of warfare. Lol. Did they need lead for other stuff? They could have always just melted the bullets.

I do enjoy watching a metal detectorist. Almost every single person with a detector needs a lesson on removing a artifact from the ground. Just pull it out is what is said. I know pull tabs make life miserable, but hitting a target with a shovel or breaking a bottle by yanking is that last thing I want to see. If it is truly history take the time and effort to cut a big hole and go around the target until completely exposed. Then carefully lift it out and use a brush. One handed swipes with a thumb is not the way to go. Unless its a pull tab or beer can. If it looks good, treat it good.
