The worst part about a total newbie being crushed by Grubby is if they don't realise they were just crushed by Grubby. Like, I could absolutely stomach joining some game, getting my ass handed to me, if someone could say, "do you know who that was?!"

This really highlights how even though games like WC3 were in the "Golden Age" of RTS, they still suffer from some trappings of older games in for example the fighting game genre, where the state of competitive play kinda grew completely, wildly away from any sort of intentionality the developers may have had, to the point where the Singleplayer mode and the Multiplayer mode are completely different beasts. To play competitively, you kinda have to "unlearn" a lot of things that the singleplayer game teaches you in the early tutorials etc. which are the only avenue through which new, casual players have any hope of going through towards system mastery. Perhaps if Warcraft 3 were released in the current day and age the early tutorials of the singleplayer campaign could introduce concepts such as timing attacks, rushing, principles in base organisation and defense, the importance of teching up ASAP, how to pull creeps etc., but that would make the game perhaps radically different.

We have seen some moves towards that. With campaigns having set missions but intertwined with skirmishes. 40k Dark Crusade RTS is a great example, with CoH3 being a modern example. However I think it often just waters down the campaign. I think it is best handled with a ''competitive campaign''. Like a side-campaign where you get story but the missions themselves teach you multiplayer. However such a campaign would need to very creative to avoid an overt feeling of gameification but also be updated at times if the fundamental meta shifts. For example if SC2 had such a competitive tutorial mini-campaign at launch you'd need to update it today as even basic things have been changed.

@@rikterandersson3568 Also 99% of the time it would be confusing to have a tutorial that tells you how to rush or tech up in the singleplayer campaign, because the whole point of the campaign is to slowly evolve units and tech with the story, while the AI usually has a well established base you simply cant rush and your tech level is also limited. i dont even wanna imagine the work involved to keep a multiplayer tutorial up to date with all the changes that happening,

I remember a few years back when i purchased w3 reforged, in my first multiplayer game i played against a guy that was obviously much better than me and he slaughtered me realy easy with good micro and so on, but he did encouraged me to keep playing on chat. After that i mever played again though :)) A week ago i tried again a few multiplayer games with undead, which i am prety noob at, and i got anihilated 3 times in a row in less than 5 minutes. None of the players sayed anything in chat, i did say hi like i allways did even back in the time of warcraft 3 demo. Yes, i did play that, but 15 years ago or so, i used to be prety decent at that, playing orc with far seer as only hero. Might try again but i guess they will pit me against strong players again and again so i don't see the point

I think a good strategy vs noobs is to go mass tauren walker with bloodlust. You will give them enough time to build stuff and play with it and then when they meet your army, they will get stomped. Then the game will end in a flash but they will also be impressed.

I'm not totally noob. Played in the past, not seriously. Playing mostly Dota. Never heard of grubby until coming across this channel, and just started playing again because of this channel. I completely have forgotten past build orders, and it's a hard game to pick up because people are either good, or noobish like me. 3v3 is very fun though.

Every time i watch either Warcaft 3 or Starcraft 2 pros i always wonder how League of Legends can be the biggest e-sport in the world. Like a Warcraft or Starcraft pro could go into a LoL tournaments and do decent. If a LoL player would enter a War/Star tourny thay would get completely destroyed xd Warcraft and Starcraft is the 2 games you truly can say that there is no skill ceiling.
