This is the definition of the whole series . The music , the audio is just fantastic . The cartoony looks are amazing . I will never forget this game or ever delete it from my pc .

This game was absolutely incredible and so far beyond anything out there in 1995 It was really what put Blizzard on the map and it was the golden age of that company.

I remember borrowing this at the local library and burning the CD. I quickly turned to other games, including WC3 eventually, but my dad (not particularly tech savvy, it's the only computer game he's ever played) kept playing WC2 for ages - probably all the way up until like 5 years ago.

This game was the heart and soul of Warcraft - not whatever garbage abomination the series has morphed into now. The story was simple, but really good. The atmosphere was incredible - it was very dark, but cut with a lot of humor...similar to Warhammer, but different enough to feel novel. The humans were these noble, stalwart footmen and knights standing against death. The orcs were bloodthirsty demon worshippers. Needless to say, Warcraft 3 decided to go "noble savage" on the Orcs and everything went downhill in WoW.

you may laugh at the select units tip, but in warcraft 1 you had to hold ctrl to be able to select few units and only four at most.

If you are just looking to have some chill multiplayer fun you are always welcomed to play with me and my friends on GOG battle net every weekend. You don't have to play under your Grubby name, although I probably would not treat you any different. We play with beginners and good players alike. If you are weak we will team you up with stronger players and if you are very very weak we will enforce handicaps as to keep it fun for everyone. Being bad at a game should never be a reason you cannot enjoy it, granted you have to be ok loosing and have fun both ways 🙂 Warcraft 2 is a very unique RTS but a lot of what you know from WC3 may apply there too. Wc2 is a bit more leaned toward terrain/grid management than more fleshed out modern games because that is simply the only thing it really does (no rock paper scissor or army specialization here for example). There are only two damage types and micro around units mainly focuses on maintaining choke points and holding advantageous shapes. It probably only would take you a few games to get the hang of it all. Balance in WC2 has known imbalances like Lust, but overall it is not at all the game breaking type. In one competitive multiplayer match it is not unusual to see every single unit being used as every unit has their own job they do better. WC2 has a lot more to offer in multiplayer than the poor AI of that time could ever handle in single player. Wc2 is my favorite game *ever* .Eeven though I've playing WC3 since ROC came out in 2002, I still call myself a Wc2 player that also plays WC3. WC2 is *the* greatest pure RTS ever, IMO. I remember back in 1996 when I was still a teen I couldn't wait until after school to go to LAN and play WC2. Sure, internt back in 1996 was so terrible that online gaming didn't exist, but playing one-on-one always an amazing experience. I played all the iconic 90's games like Legend of Zelda, Sim City, Street Fighter 2, etc.(what 90's kid doesn't remember SuperNintendo?🤣) But WC2 is just a very, very special and unique game that we'll never see again. The introduction of the hero concept to WC3 was very interesting, and I love playing hero, but if we are honest it killed a lot of the real RTS element of WC2. The tiny armies and uokeep cost of WC3 and the fact that heroes scale up so powerfully made strategy and macro-management of secondary importance, and that is never good on an RTS. WC3 is iconic and I love playing it, but WC2 is the *true* Warcraft RTS and WC3 is more of an RPG/DOTA type game.

I first got Tides Of Darkness on the original Playstation. It ran horribly and the more units on the map, the slower the game ran regardless of the speed you put it at. I remember seeing my friend play the original Warcraft on his computer at the time and was immediately enamored. It took our family many more years until we had a PC (which may have been a blessing as I'm pretty sure all my previous friend's computer use was done through DOS prompt) which was likely the e-machines running windows 95. Eventually I got Warcraft II Battle dot net edition and was completely in love with the fact that I could play with my friend down the street through LAN. Though coordinating that was tough since we didn't have smart phones and connecting to the internet took up the landline. There was definitely a time period though where I got mildly serious about getting good at the competitive maps. I never really did get serious about playing online though. My parents were never too happy about me taking up the phone line just to play games.
