Lmao I love that you went from “I’m open to see how this goes” to the very next clip being “I wanted to DNF almost immediately” 😂😂

You're spot on with Hazlewood. I read all 5 books, started with and loved The Love Hypothesis, but when the other 4 books were carbon copies of the same thing over and over again, I had enough. I'm not sure I'll read another one from her unless she will finally have a bigger girl and an average sized man, who aren't grumpy x sunshine.

Whew, those are pipe dreams for Hazelwood at this point in time 😣😣

Thank you for your service. I'm going to pass on her books altogether. Even with the positives that you fairly brought up, I don't think they would outweigh the cons for me.

"built like a Victorian house" 😂😂 I have been very careful about reading hyped romances these past years and the ones from Ali didn't make the cut. This video solidifies my decision 😅 but I'm glad there's people who enjoyed them. At the end of day, we all have different tastes and there was never a time with as much new books published as today and that's incredible! Great video, Monae, I love hearing and seeing you! 💚

i wish you could see my face about this croissant...i just knew Ali Hazelwood wouldn't be for me and this whole video confirmed it lol. you're doing the Lord's work out here

That croissant melt down really pissed me off, you should have seen what happened when she finally got it. The girl was almost in tears and she didn’t even WANT IT. 😵💫

As a woman working in a scientific field, I was excited to read the Love Hypothesis. What a disappointment! ARGH. DNF'd that book quickly and regretted having spend money on it! How on earth was the female protagonist supposedly representing an intelligent female in the STEM field? Thanks Monae for your thoughtful assessment!

I'm currently reading The Love Hypothesis so I guess I will see ..and yes I did start reading due to the hype although I do not usually like this trope. I do love these commentary vlogs though. I just don't know if I have an author that I advise you to follow the hype on. I did with Chevy Stevens and I DNFed. I have been hearing a little talk about Lyssa Kay Adams and how her characters personalities are very different. I haven't read any yet but I'd love to hear your thoughts

Nora is a good author and she also writes as J.D. Robb if you like thrillers. I've only read a few though. So...

I read The Love Hypothesis and it was a 2-star for me, I just don't want to read about such un-self aware, no introspection, infantilized women. It was probably my last read from Ali Hazelwood, ugh. The sex scene I hated, because you have two scientist who are like 'I'm clean' when they're talking about their STI status and who don't use condoms, I'm like uuugh. Not to mention that I have enough people around me who don't know how to communicate, I don't want that in my fiction that much (unless there is a well fleshed out reason). Might give her another go in 5 years or something!

I've read 3 of her books because I got them together without knowing anything about her or the books and the vibe I've gotten from her writing is self insert y/n fanfics. Like I've read fanfics on AO3 written better and that have a more interesting plot than her books.

She’s one of those authors that I’m gonna live my whole life without reading cuz I’m hearing the same critiques i from everyone who’s not obsessed with her writing. I’ll pass cuz Love on the Brain and The Love Hypothesis sound like 2 star reads for me.

ngl, Stuck With You actually sounds like (a rather bad) description of how OCD works. the ritual of buying the croissant is the "compulsive" part of the whole Obsessive-Compulsive thing, and while the "obsessive" part is the character making the connection between the ritual and her success in her field. i've never read any of Aly Hazelwood's work and don't plan to, but that at the very least is a legitimate thing that people with OCD go through/experience.

Well you’re not wrong. I read an article that said that her editor is basically giving her writing prompts but I really enjoyed your critique on her books. I won’t be picking any of her books out but I appreciate your bravery in reading not one but 3 of her books. 🫡
