I'm not a kayaker so I can't speak to the size of your stones but mine were tested there a couple of decades back, in August, on a 6-person raft... I still remember the roar of the water, you literally can't hear yourself scream. We flipped 3 times, last one was Oblivion. I also remember whimpering like a little baby. Good times. LOL

A word of advice Bren; never follow Dane; you are a very, very good paddler; but Dane is a river God. He was conceived in a Toppo Duo in between the rapids on the Green river. Water loves him - that is why he always gets the green lines. But seriously that water was huge and very complicated . I've run stoppers like them, but it was just one at the end of the rapid. Taking on 3 - 4 in the middle of a rapid must be really scary. You get my "Big Balls of week" trophy.

The Zambezi is a great run, never had the chance to run the minus ones, probably wouldn't have either as they are massive and when I paddled it, I don't think they had been run (was Steve Fisher the first?). The rest of them down to the mid 20s are pretty tame big water. Been far more scared in Wales on tight pinny stuff than on the Zambezi. Great to see it's still a great paddle! When I went there, the biggest I'd paddled before that was a few rivers in spate in France, quite the eye opener.
@Senders6 жыл бұрын
Mate, epic comment! What year where you there?
@TKM113706 жыл бұрын
@@Senders I think it was 1999 or 2000. I had a brand new Ultra Clean from Perception, my sponsor at the time. Fuck that boat was heavy on the walk out. I spent a bit of time running the first 5 rapids on a play run with Nico Chasing and he had some Riot kayak that weighed about 10kg and he would literally run up the walk out at number 5 while I slowly died carrying up this heavy ass boat.

I think it's perhaps to do with the levels at this time of year (not good for freestyle surfing), and they seem to be in rippers/antix so mabey they're just trying to get the best of both worlds
@Senders6 жыл бұрын
The Zambezi has some waves but they are hard to get and there are only a few freestyle spots to enjoy a freestyle kayak with. Whereas there are over 20 rapids on the way down, we are just looking to cruise the river, throw some down river move, get in shape and have a good time! We will focus on freestyle at Stakeout... I also have a Jed here in case a sick wave comes in...
