Love Eagle Creek. I live in Portland so I've done that hike tons of times. Real treasure.

We don't have anything like this in South Florida. Oregon is my favorite state I've been to. Everything is green all year around. Awesome.

Oh wow. Oregon. Silver Falls, heavily visited, is about 25 mins from me near Salem.
@geraldhenrickson74728 жыл бұрын
No...not Silver Creek Falls. This was Eagle Creek up out of the Columbia Gorge. Same yet different. Much more elevation gain yet BOTH are mandatory if one were to hike in Oregon. Very very beautiful!

Beautiful Eagle CreekTrail is now closed to all humans. Last year a group of teenagers lit off fireworks and threw it down one of the gorges and burned almost 50,000 acres. You were extremely lucky to have seen all this magnificent amazing nature. Thank you for posting this great video. Happy trails!

Nevada Hiker Hi, how long it takes to hike it? thanks.
@nevadahiker66617 жыл бұрын
Out to Tunnel Falls and back is about 4 hours hiking, plus all the time it takes to film and take pictures! And depending on the time of year you might see a lot of garter snakes. I saw about 20 on one hike. Combining snakes with heights is two major phobias! Luckily I enjoy both!

Beautiful area! Great video clip. I'd love to do that hike some time. I've seen a couple other videos of that area on KZbin. Looks like you guys had a great time. That trail looks narrow and a bit treacherous in spots. What a AWESOME place! If there are eagles in that area they will be there year round because of the relatively warm climate there. Adult bald eagles begin fall migration when the northern lakes and rivers freeze over. Depending on location, they usually migrate to the coast or large rivers near dams, where the water remains open. They are seen here in Minnesota all winter long along the Mississippi river valley where I live. As a Animal Warden I often deal with injured raptors on the job year round. I have a question about the hiking poles the other guys were using... what's their purpose? You aren't walking on snow or using cross country skies or snowshoes? Are they for exercise? I ask because I don't know :-) ? Seems like they would be more of a hindrance then asset in that type of terrain.
@RedBeard09248 жыл бұрын
+1st508th Airborne hiking poles are incredible. They help with stability and the worst thing for a long distance hiker is injury. They help with balance and also take stress off of the knees. I will never hike again without trekking poles. I move much faster with them, both up and down hill. Happy hiking. ✌🏼️

Will Wood Really? Thanks for the info 👍 . I thought maybe it was to get a extra upper body workout. Shows how up to date I am on hiking gear... lol. Heck, makes me wish I had those in the military after hearing that... :-) .
@boardfed8 жыл бұрын
Think 4 legs instead of 2. Way more stable and allow you to hike more "heads up" as opposed to looking down the whole time. They aid greatly in uphill sections, you can help push/pull your way up steep sections , and help save your knees on the downhill. They also transfer a minimal amount of weight off of your shoulders, so that pack weight doesn't wear you down so easy.

When are you going to go back and finish the rest of the PCT? I bet that little taste of Oregon made you want to return. I've sure enjoyed your video's. And they helped sell me on ZPacks. I don't know when I'll be able to get 5 month leave from work. But that hasn't stopped me from preparing. I bought the duplex tent, Arc Haul pack, 20 degree bag, a bunch of rain gear, a bear bag, down hood, among other things. The trail is definitely calling!

Amazing views, I noticed the cable running along the trail by the waterfall, is that so you can clip in for safety and walk along?
@MatanuskaHIGH8 жыл бұрын
yep! there is sheer cliff along the first 4 miles or so and trail is less than 3 ft wide..when bringing kids its recommended to use via Ferrata. its webbing with two biners connected to a harness.
@RedBeard09248 жыл бұрын
+newstart1651 mostly just to hold on to I imagine.
@geraldhenrickson74728 жыл бұрын
It would not be feasible to clip in to that cable. Too many mounting points to circumvent. Use it as a handrail and hold your kids hands. Keep them on the cable side. It works well. Just having something to grab if you stumble is a tremendous help.

Backpacking friendly after you pass tunnel falls, no camping the first 7 miles. All the backcountry camping you can handle up at Wahtum, and an actual toilet at the nearby state run campground.

+Will “Red Beard” Wood aren't those running shoes? is that what you wear on the pct?
@airfry448 жыл бұрын
They are trial running shoes and yes almost all pct hikers wear something light like that. You want a light and breathable shoe that will dry quickly. Keep in mind each pound on your foot is like carrying 5 lbs on your back so the lighter the better.

Why the need for walking sticks like those? I guess you would call them ski sticks?
@IMKINDOFABIGDEAL138 жыл бұрын
warcraftnut1354 they are called trekking poles. they make hiking long distance a little less strenuous. make great poles to set up a tarp shelter. helps you when crossing stream. the possibilities are endless. lol
@warcraftnut13548 жыл бұрын
Good to know, thanks.
@geraldhenrickson74728 жыл бұрын
I use them for bear defense. Black...not Grizzly. Also for spearing fish yet...I find them ineffective. On a snowfield...you can arrest your slide a bit or at least keep your feet down-slope. I have retrieved a stuck food bag (or was it a kite?) from a tall branch with mine. In 1967 we used two poles as a splint on Mt. Thielsen. If you have a hammock and can find but one tree, you can fashion a one-ended hammock support if you have enough cordage and the trekking poles are reasonable sturdy. You can disassemble and spell SOS on the snow (well...maybe just the "S" and "O") for immediate rescue. If they are aluminum you can construct a rudimentary cell phone tower. If on a thru-hike, you can wear them instead of clothes thereby enabling you to wash all your clothing when taking a zero. Wait...that last one did not work very well. Endless possibilities.
