Actors like Mifune just have a raw charisma that can't be learned. You either have it or you don't.

You keep believing that. That's why you can't learn it. Anyting either exists or not. The thing is to learn to create what you desire. Yeah, you probalby won't be exactly Mifune atom to atom, but the charisma. That is no coincidence, as nothing is coincidence.

I first saw Toshiro Mifune in Rashomon and was completely overwhelmed, what a fantastic man and actor!
When I saw Seven Samurai last week, I thought “wow this character is my favorite one but he’s such a piece of work”……. I had no idea he was such a legend. He was amazing in Drunken Angel as well. He steals your attention when he’s on screen. Absolute master of the craft.

Somehow I missed the English subtitles. But in any language this is an actor worth watching. I just had the pleasure of seeing DRUNKEN ANGEL yesterday, from 1948 - his first collaboration with Kurosawa. Already that trademark scowl was in place, and you could feel the intensity just radiating off him.

My introduction to Japanese film and Toshiro Mifune in particular was in the late 1990s some cable channel here in NYC I was maybe 12 or 13. I was channel surfing, hit a channel and I swear the battle between Musashi and Sasaki at the end of Samurai III had just begun. I was spellbound. It ended and I was just totally overawed and stunned and legitimately WTF AWESOME THING DID I JUST WITNESS

Toshiro Mifune, so talented and so sexy at the same time. A gentleman who is kinda shy also. No one is like him. Well, maybe Brando only?
@42kellys4 жыл бұрын
Sorry, Brando can never come close. Also, because Brando never knew his lines, whereas Mifune's preparation included knowing his lines too. Plus, nobody could show emotions as he did, nobody. I have only seen once some Russian actors come to the level, but no other, and I have seen thousands of films up till now.

What he is talking about is... 4:02 "Heating does not work due to lack of oil." 5:23 Interviewer: "What do you think about movies and TV today?" Mifune "About movies and TV ..." Translator: "Movies are losing momentum in Britain today, but what about Japanese movies? The question has become a bit general." Mifune: "Well, with the development of not only TV but also other major industries, the Japanese film industry was temporarily weak, but it seems that it has been revived recently." It's like this
