manila is named cause nilad is a type of water plant that grows along the pasig river, and "may" means there is so if mixed together "maynilad" loosely translates to "there is nild there" and over the years it evolved to maynila or manila

We're glad you visited Philippines! Just one thing though, flowers here are called "bulaklak" in general.. There's no such flower as "Ma" and "Nila" 😊😊😊

"The city became known by the name given by its Tagalog inhabitants, as Maynila, first recorded as Maynilad or "Manila". The name is based on the nila, a flowering mangrove plant that grew on the marshy shores of the bay, used to produce soap for regional trade. It is either from the phrase may nila, Tagalog for "there is nila."
