I was always told that aitu are our own. In our own village our aitu look after us, but beware when in villages you dont belong too. They help reinforce village protocols and right behavior. But yes we were also told all the scary stories too! Maybe so we listened and obeyed those telling the stories. Thanks faleo'o!

Covering of mirrors at night, no whistling at night, no combing of hair at night, no body spray cologne after sundown,....etc. I was told of these ancient stories and everytime I visit Samoa, I always respect these rituals. WHY? Just to be on the SAFE SIDE 🤗

In Chamorro culture, whistling at night is something we do to let the taotaomo'na spirits know we are passing through. Especially in cemeteries

Well it’s an Idea. We did it ceremoniously and literally (cannibalism). In our Dark ages we suffered from those who practices these pagan practices the most. Samoan paganism offered human sacrifices to powerful gods. Christianity offered an alternative greater than any offering of a Samoan body, which led to the downfall of samoan pagansim
@AK47HEAVYMETAL83 Жыл бұрын
I believe we were just fine before Christianity arrived on our shores. It’s good that our ancestors didn’t allow Christianity to erase all of our aganu’u, but they did get rid of a lot of practices and traditions we had that they considered paganism and barbaric. Tattooing, specifically, they tried to get rid of that, which is a critical part of our culture (which many Samoans was a no-no lol). But if you think about it, Christianity caused way more death and destruction in the world than Samoan “paganism” ever did. Just my opinion.
@michaelweb7416 Жыл бұрын
@@AK47HEAVYMETAL83 Our “Practices and traditions” weren’t the only measures of barbarism we inflicted on our own populous. Before Christianity, cannibalism , mass executions, and revenge killings spanning generations, plagued what was supposed to be an Island “paradise”. At an Island level, Samoan paganism was able to convey every crime possible against humanity. It failed to reach outside of its Influence due to its unappealing brutality towards those who weren’t of certain status. Which is why the Samoan commoner embraced Christ
@AK47HEAVYMETAL83 Жыл бұрын
@@michaelweb7416 So you’re saying we were as bad as Mongolians and Vikings…just barbaric pillagers? Tell me how many millions have lost their lives in the name of Christianity. True, Samoans were at war at the time Christianity arrived. And the people were just tired of it and they happened to arrive at the moment people were wanting peace. But don’t tell me that our culture, practices and traditions of paganism was worse than how many millions of people that have died in the crusades Christians started. LOL The civil wars in Samoa was over titles and land, not over religion of course. As far as cannibalism is concerned, Papua New Guinea is well known for that practice. Samoans weren’t known for being cannibals except a few. But Christianity has spilled far more blood than any other religion, besides Islam. So who really has committed the most atrocities against humanity?

Our dogs always start barking and howling around 2-3 AM around our house at night back home 😂😂😂 That’s because our house is built on a “auala o’o” used by ancestors in the past, so there’s a lot of spirits spotted by many people around our house. 😅 And I used to just walk out and cuss out aikus, and the dogs always stopped. If you’re afraid of them, they’ll have fun with you all night. 😆

@@AK47HEAVYMETAL83 sounds like our old house in Samoa too. That auala, I think it’s a leyline runs right through it. The stories my Mum and Aunties tell about that house and the land. But it’s not spirits of our family but aitu, demons. I thank God for my grandad, he was a strong believer in Yeshua the Messiah. The spiritual and physical battles he faced on that land esp as an in law, were great.

@redeemedstone Жыл бұрын
Be careful. When Jeremiah meant old paths he meant to worship the God of Israel’s fathers, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. He is YHWH. In Deut 32 God already set aside Israel for His portion. Why so His Son, Yeshua means Salvation would be born to save the rest of Adams children from their false gods. Ancestor worship is forbidden in Torah and for good reason. Genesis 6:4 is the reason we shouldn’t have ‘fono ma aitu’. Meetings with spirits. Demonic spirits come in disguise too and want to kill and destroy us. Look up our bloodthirsty history under these demonic gods. We don’t want to go back to eating each other. This is what many aitu want.
