thx for this. I just found foobar and needed a bit of help setting up, after almost smashing my laptop in frustration over mediamonkeys anti intuitive setup. a minute after installing foobar i had my libary set up as i wanted (folder structure), which took me 10 mins of trying on mediamonkey. -love this program already. the vlc like 'keep it simple' layout and interface is awesome!

All of us were young once. Frantic MP3 collecting. Random songs, random bitrates. Dubious tagging... Then there comes a time of enlightement when you realize your faulty ways and you buckle up and fix it all. I remember starting with the ultimate tagging of all music correctly. Then slowly, when the hard drive space allowed it, I went for storing lossless in diferent formats. These days I'm trying to get all album covers, which foobar makes quite easy, but its hard for over a 1000 albums.

Logan, dude, I love you. ;) I tried using this software before and it was a bit too much for me so I uninstalled and continued using my ZUNE music playing software. After this little tutorial I decided to give it another shot. I have everything setup to my liking and I will be a foobar user for a long time to come. I am using the eq from my asus soundcard software with slight tweaks on the foobar eq and it has really improved my already great sound.

Thanks for putting out your theme , I've been using foobar2k for a couple of years now and I basically just kept the bare minimal it offers by default. I did try a few theme's in the past. but this is KICKASS. Especially the vertical and horizotal versions are a nice touch , since I personally always put foobar2k on my second screen but not fullscreen so vertical is better.

I put a lot of metadata in my files, such as the date the album was remastered, the record label, and display it in columns and the database viewer. Other media players only allow a limited set of fields, and if you can contact the developers of those players, they might say that the standard for format X doesn't support this data, and you're basically screwed. And then you have to perform workarounds such as adding different information to the comments field. With Foobar I can keep the library organized. Also foobar has supported volume levelling with ReplayGain since the beginning. That was a topic of discussion recently in context of the loudness war.

He goes through some of the reasons in the video, but in short: -Customizability -Computer audio technology oriented components for tagging, file handling and so much more -Maybe the best ReplayGain interface (though I dont know about others, I think this is considered great) -Normally low memory footprint I think a small part of the whole Foobar2000 experience is the same as in some people using vinyl records. The effort and crudeness of it somehow adds to the experience of listening to music
