I don’t know for sure but I see it as training!! More than anything, that makes wild predators especially wolves!! Is drivin by hunger!! So making them compete increases their aggression towards anything invading their space!! This is why i feed my dogs in there kennle the dog always go to the other dogs food bowl and eat out of theres even if the already ate there food. They act like they starve to death but i feed them multible times everyday and they shouldnt be that hungry. Even if the dog knows not to do it they still do it. I always have to have alot of dog food beacuse they keep eating eachothers food beacuse when i let them inside after i let outside they go strait to a kennle that has food in it i have told them not to they no not to but they just do it
