Gordon gave himself the advantage by bending the tasting rules. Tastings should always go from lighter weight, more elegant tasting wines and then moving on to more weightier, higher alcohol and more intense, riper flavoured wines. THis way the human palate can adjust to the escalating flavours. So the order should have been the Blue Nun, the Petrus 92 and then finally the Grange 98. BTW, that 1992 Petrus was also from one of their weaker years while the 1998 Grange was one of their best. In Gordon's defence, Matt was also a little too cocky, he should have at least cleansed his palate with some water or bread before taking on another wine after the 1998 Grange.

Maybe it WAS corked. Even great Chateau can be corked once in a while. Add to that the many years of age, and if it had been a little off to begin with, that could explain it.

gukgl uyguig Corked has nothing to do with producer or age. It is TCA that was on and in the cork at bottling.

Technically, but it shouldn't be stale unless exposed to oxygen. Wine can last for extreme amounts of time.

He guessed the Bordeaux more or less correctly. French wine is always overpriced massively. 1000 quid for corked piss? Pay it if you like to splash money. Personaly I prefer a good wine.
