As an amputee I can win bar bets by hopping across the room with a glass of ale without spilling it. Word of warning, this bet gets harder to win the more you win. Kind of ironic, winning an adult beverage free of hops by hopping.

Bell's Two Hearted Ale... Favorite Brew
@leumas754 жыл бұрын
My favorite is Saint Arnold’s SANTO, a “black Kölsch” or dark lager, brewed by Texas’ oldest micro-brewer, and a company that has resisted all offers from Im-Bev and others for many years. I drink it late at night when it’s cool enough in Houston to be outside, on my heavily fanned backporch, listening to the sounds of night and petting my loyal companion Mulligan, an Irish Wolfhound I rescued many years ago.
@DrDizzlebeat3 жыл бұрын
Kölsch beer by definition is pale and only to be brewed in Cologne, what you're drinking is probably closer to Irish Wolfhound piss. Cheers
@leumas753 жыл бұрын
DrDizzlebeat - Yes, kölsch is pale and in the EU, is protected to only be brewed in Cologne. Those rules do not apply in the US. Also, the brewery owners at least halfway agree with you on the name; their website describes this beer as ”a black Kölsch, which technically doesn’t exist as a style, but this is as close as we can come to describing it. Essentially it is brewed using a Kölsch recipe with the addition of Munich and black malt. It is light bodied and floral yet with a distinct dark malt flavor.” And having traveled to many parts of the world, and spending some 18 months in Germany & Austria, I can assure you that this is a distinctive beer with a smooth light body but dark flavor, and is a welcome delight in the hot Houston, Texas summers when flavor is a must but heaviness a burden.

Left Hand Nitro Milk Stout. Stouts are almost always tasty, and milk stouts in particular tend to have a really smooth flavor profile. Nitrogenation in lieu of carbonation changes the mouthfeel and eliminates some mild sour notes, making for a truly tasty brew.

You talk of Bud Inbev dominating the market in 2017 by buying Miller, but didn't even touch how the big guys (Bud, Miller and Coors) dominated and destroyed the regional beer industry in the US in the 70s.When I came of drinking age in the 80s, the beer choices were sad, and Michelob Dark was considered classy AF. Thank God for the rise of the craft brewers. From tiny taprooms to large new regional breweries the choices of quality beer styles is astounding. Even some old regional brewers are experience a renaissance. I haven't had a Miller/Bud/Coors brew in more than 20 years.

Didn't know there are people who use the terms beer and ale interchangeably cos in an average English pub you rarely see beer on tap unless it was one of those international brands whilst ales you'd find it hard to see them in a glass bottle. Personally I love locally brewed ales on tap....always try the stuff on tap first and if none are that nice then I'd go for an IPA if that fails then I guess I'd risk it and ask for a pint of snakebite and black.

The Back Hand of God by Crannog Ales in BC, Canada. I believe it's a stout, but I'll call it a beer for this. I actually don't like beer at all (cider is my thing), but even I find BHoG to be very tasty. They don't ship it anywhere, and they grow the ingredients right there on the farm where it's brewed, so you have to go to the BC interior to find it.
