My washing machine broke over Christmas so I went to my local laundrette today only to find it had shut down. This is a laundrette that was featured on Channel 4 news last year regarding the increase energy cost. the owner said they would stay open as long as they could but rising costs were really hurting them. The fun part is that when anyone is talking about inflation is expecting to fall, we are basically just talking about slower price increases. Once a price increase happens, the damage is done so even if 2023 should show a miraculous 0% inflation, we are still set at the higher prices that have happened in the past months/year. Fuel prices were down in pandemic, high again, lowered again now. So your theory is wrong. Prices are set depending on how much money is in the economy. You can't ask a price for something if nobody has enough money to pay that price. People have too much money printed by gov or borrowed from banks on low interest, so they can pay high prices. Inflation means too much money in the economy, not high prices. High prices are the result of too much money.

The government in the UK will ALWAYS prioritise the well being of big corporations even if they are foreign owned. They know full well that their policy of subsidising consumer energy bills is a gift to the rich and corporations. The rational policy would be to tax the super normal profits of the energy companies and use that to subsidise prices for the first x units of energy consumed. That would benefit the basic level of energy consumption while not subsidising unnecessarily the high consumption of wealthy households. It is this kind of stupid policymaking that is slowly killing the UK.

I try to help a friend with mental health problems who tries to work and pay their own way but the food they used to pay around £40 for is now more like 60- 70- pounds and they are just not buying so much. They are on a pay as you go metre for heating and they are not keeping warm . When I do a shop online for them I also feel like crying, I used to be able to get so much for them food and cleaning materials etc for £70 now it s £120. I can't help as often now. Why don't all those super Rich politicians and global leaders give their share of fuel sunsidies to help the aged? Why are we being governed by multi millionnaires who have no idea what it is like to be poor.

I watched numerous clips showing how hard British living are in 2022. But compared to uk, average post tax income in my home town is lower. Food , groceries, clothes, rent, real state, gas are far more expensive. Only public transport, water and electricity are a bit cheaper in which we could spend a hundred pounds less monthly. Now I truly understand why many in my hometown is leaving to uk.

I am now down to £20 a week to buy food after paying bills. and that's for me and my child. If you can not afford it you do not buy it. Do not go into debt to eat. You will never pay it back. I just baked 6 chicken drumsticks which will last till Saturday and the rendered fat is in a glass in the fridge. That'll last for a few days for frying stuff in. And egg fried rice/bubble and squeak are age old methods of using up vegetables that would've been wasted otherwise. Even gone off milk can be strained and the curds used to make cheese if you've got the patience.

These aren't British produce; these are imports and naturally you'll pay more for them especially since leaving the Brexit. 2 pounds for a bag of oranges - still a bargain. I was talking to an African girl and she was talking about her expensive food bill and pointed to an African Yam, I suggest that she switch to locally grown potatoes! Imagine all the fuel needed to get a Yam from West Africa, Rice and nutmeg from Asia. People need to eat more local and support local farmers, you don't need as much fuel to transport locally grown fruit and veg. Is globalism sustainable?!
