Great tutorial. I like the way you go step by step and explain what you are doing. It demystifies the entire process and explains the entire lighting process so brilliantly.

Thank you master. A photo must tell and create emotions. It's seven in the morning, I'm hungry and now I want to eat a nice croissant (the ones made with butter are tastier) filled with apricot jam 🤤🤤🤤Yeah... I'll go get one.

You produce excellent videos! One little thing: in your standard explanations of setup, in situations where you are eliminating room ambient light, add five seconds explaining that "by setting the aperture and shutter speed to such-and-such, we have assured that only flash lighting, and zero room lighting, shows up in the image." You always touch on this a bit obliquely. The novice may not quite grasp the notion of eliminating room lighting via aperture and shutter speed settings. Your videos and your descriptions are as good as any on YT. Excellent.

I always wait for your videos, because with so much naturalness and professionalism you always bring us to new scenarios. I'm learning a lot with you and I always try to replicate what you do (with much cheaper equipment though... Prophoto is too expensive for me). I will watch this new video again and again... and if I may suggest... it would be nice to see a session with a small model of an old motorcycle or car with a nice scenography... thanks!

Can you provide a tutorial on how to photograph a large vase, statue or ornament made out of glossy ceramic. I do not seem able to get rid of light modifier reflections unless I use photoshop. What do you think?
@CameraClubLive9 күн бұрын
If you remove all the highlights and reflections there will be nothing left. The trick is to embrace and use them. I have already done several videos on this subject, but there will be more to come in the New Year. Thanks for watching.

Can you get the same beam of light effect by putting a snoot on the light?
@CameraClubLive9 күн бұрын
No, not at all. The reason this works is that the light is a reasonable distance away from the mask. You would need a snoot about a metre long to replicate this effect. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching.

I’m curious if there is any advantage to using a medium format camera for studio still life photography. I know that you’ve stated before that you use it because it is “generic,” but is there any technical reason it might be better? Medium format is usually used when you want the compression of longer lenses with a wider field of view or more megapixels to allow cropping or huge enlargements, but I don’t really see either as an advantage for studio still life photography. What are your thoughts on that?
@CameraClubLive10 күн бұрын
The main advantage to medium format is the huge increase in image quality. This is partly down to a large pixel count but mostly due to the extreme dynamic range in the sensor. This will give good graduations across the image. Thanks for watching.
@jdiamond951310 күн бұрын
@ Thanks for the reply. I forgot about the large dynamic range of medium format. That certainly is useful for still life photography.
