Your food storage looks awesome. I love the simplicity of being able to walk downstairs for food rather than going to the store whenever cook!

The LDS church has it right. Back in the early 70s, I was aware of their food storage objective of a year. Now the preppers have embraced this, for various reasons. Prepping is nothing new. Good job!

I definitely went thru the faze of having a stock pile just to have one or because it looked good on the shelfs. I was super good at extreme couponing and would buy things just to later on throw it away or donate it. Now I've learned it's only a good deal if we eat/use it. Good to know I wasn't the only one who did this.

I stockpile for only length of in between sales. My anxiety goes crazy with waste or things that aren't moving. I'm a huge saver but I try to stay smart with it. I know exactly what you are saying.

I've noticed many people store their food on open shelves. A major disaster would likely interrupt sanitation services which would quickly lead to an increase in vermin in areas that never had to worry about them before. A couple of rats could decimate half of your food storage in a matter of days if you have unprotected boxes and plastic containers or bottles of food on open shelves. Consider metal cabinets with doors, large tins, or even metal garbage cans for vulnerable foods. Male rodents also dribble urine which can be corrosive to cans. Protect your food, and don't forget to stock up on rat, mice, and insect traps.

Thanks for explaining your food storage! I had always thought people's "stock piles" were related to extreme couponing (or obsessive hoarding), but now I realize there is more of a survival mindset. Seeing how prepared you are, I realize I am way too minimal in my food storage. Not sure how long we would survive on my little pantry - time to get on that! :)

Megan some people do coupon and go over board. But not every one. Mormans keep or teach to have emergency food for a year at least. Keeping stuff that has a long shelf life. Or canning food. But there are those who coupon and buy it cause it has a coupon and they can get it nearly free with coupons.

Love this!! Thanks for sharing!! I have 1 shelf (like what you have) in my basement for can goods, condiments and things I have canned. Then next to that I have 3 bins labeled- pasta, baked goods and snacks. Then I have a small chest freezer we keep meats, my sliced pears from my parents tree, sliced apples from my friends land and pureed pumpkin we get after Halloween cheap (portioned for recipes that I bake throughout the winter). I have a sheet I keep in the kitchen with what I have down there. I have been shopping around for a stand up freezer because I hate digging down to the bottom and the door closes on me...lol!!

I want to thank you. You really just inspired me to start some larger food storage. I went out and bought $50 worth of canned vegetables and fruit and a few baking mixes. The government might shut down again at the end of the week. At least I will a months worth of veggies and some extra canned fruits. Also a few muffin boxes. If they don’t shut down, I can just use up the cans over time and replace them after I use them. I have always kept a fair amount of food but never really organized it enough to make sure it was well rounded. We have always eaten fresh and frozen veggies. But I started thinking I should get my family to eat some canned veggies so we can store some for long term storage.

Good stuff. I have food storage areas in the kitchen for day to day stuff. Two double sized closets upstairs. A freezer in the laundry room. A Root Cellar off the basement and another part of a downstairs room for more dry storage. Got a fully loaded dehydrater going right now in my workshop with a few pounds of bell peppers diced up and drying. Picked up 10 pounds of fresh ones today at a price too good to pass up on.

I love seeing what people have in their food storage and how they store it. I have a limited amount of space but in my case it helps me keep it organized and rotate through before it goes bad. I have 24lbs of rice and beans, over 30 canned meats, I like to keep 20lbs of pasta but I'm a little low. The rest is just extras of things we use regularly; canned vegs, tomatoes, fruits, beans, peanut butter, broth, cereal and condiments.

I grew up fundamentalist southern baptist (I'm not anymore) and we had a stock like this for the same reason, but also in case the preacher was wrong and we had to live through the great tribulation in the book of revelation. I wish someone could sponsor you to get those can racks that rotate the first in, first out for you!! What a blessing you are to your family and community in case of great crisis. Wonderfully stocked and used.

Hi! I am a new convert to the church and just recently started taking an interest in food storage as I learned about it. We don't have much, but every bit you have is better than nothing! I have packages of oats, rice, and canned goods like canned spaghetti and ravioli, etc. Also really important--i have some gallons of water. Water is essential and of top priority. I only have maybe 5 gallons so far, but again, it's better than nothing. There are other ways to store water too.

This is one of the best videos I have ever seen on food storage. It is certainly very motivating! Our family is not LDS but we do our own variation on food storage using space all around the house. I don't think we have a single room that doesn't have some kind of long term storage in it! It isn't at all the usual thing to do in the UK but it has been a sanity saver for me and we wouldn't be without it. Thank you so much for this video.

Great Food storage. I also stockpile. I coupon for a lot of things. We too have long term storage that I rotate. Let me tell you it saved us a few years back, My hubby had heart bypass and was out of work for a long while. Extra expense were killing our budget. Not having to grocery shop made one less thing to worry about. I wish more young people would follow your example an be prepared. It is the most loving thing you can do for your family.

Because of the very mild winter here in Iowa .. the mice population has increased exponentially ! And my home was one they attacked. My pantry became a mouse party ! I learned a very costly lesson . Now ... if it's not already in glass or metal can .. it is in a Rubbermaid container ! I live in the city and having a mouse raid wasn't even on my radar . Well it is now ! And from now on .. even in my short- term pantry ... everything is contained. I suggest everyone do that ... you never know when this can happen . I've had a professional exterminator in my home 3x now !

Really motivational!!! I love this video ❤️ I keep seeing comments saying "something could happen" and they're totally right, but I just started to think on how I'm a vegetarian, constantly needing fresh fruits and veggies, so I just wanted to say another good thing to freeze are fruits! (Great for smoothies too...) so if something bad happens, you'll still have fresh fruits and veggies ;) I'm sure you know you can freeze them, just a good thing to stock up on.

Eat what you store and store what you eat." Like you mentioned, we don't do the "extreme couponing" because we found we were buying things that we just didn't want to eat. We're food storage fans too :) Though now we've got a teeny tiny apartment so we're a little more limited in how much we can store. Mostly we try to stock up on the basics like diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, soups, our favorite canned veggies. I usually buy a month's worth of meat at a go, I do a once a month Costco trip for that. I do still need to buy some things at the local grocery store, but it's usually stuff like fresh produce, milk, and things that are too bulky or too perishable to buy in bulk. Two fun stories: In addition to food, we store toothpaste, shower gel etc. My husband said to me once. "It's like magic! As soon as I notice we're running low on something, a new bottle appears in the next day or two." Not magic dear...just planning. :) At the risk of sounding silly, I feel like it's my responsibility to do my best to make sure we never run out of the food and household items that we need and like. About a year ago, we moved across the country (OH to CA) and realized it would be cheaper to repurchase our food & toiletries rather than paying to move them. So we loaded up the car and made a huge donation to our local food pantry. They weigh it so they can give you a receipt for your donation for tax purposes. Our donation came in at about 110 lbs. They said it was one of the largest personal donations they'd seen. I was just happy we could help :)

Great video Kimmy. We have case lots sales where I live in Canada as well. I love them! You can save so much money buying by the case but you have to know what you use and what you need just like you stated in your video. I used to case lot shop even when I was single. My friends used to tease me something fierce but they sure loved the fact that they could pop in anytime and I could always throw a delicious meal together just by using what I had in my storage room. I saved a lot of money when my friends came over to watch movies and we got hungry late at night and didn't have to order in food because I always had lots of good food on hand.

I love your food room!! I was so excited to see another video on it. I know what you mean about the whole couponing stock. I got caught up in it too. I had so much stuff that I couldn't use up so, I ended up donating most of it to a local food pantry. I had so much cereal my kids wouldn't eat. I have 2 closets off my bedroom/bathroom. I have a walk in closet that I don't need much room for clothing so, I use it mostly for food items and my stock of toilet paper and paper towels.

I have one suggestion, we don't have a cosco so we shop at sam's. I found once opening a package of instant oat meal (Have found same thing in cake mixes and such) bugs or webs in my food. Started taking all the packages out of cardboard and putting in glass or plastic. Never knew this but some boating friends have said cardboard is nasty, never ever bring on a boat, has bugs and no way to keep them out but to get rid of the cardboard. Since I have been disposing of cardboard b4 storing my food I have had no more problems

Do you do any canning of food? If so, I'd love to see a vlog. Can you tell me the names of the machines you use to make bread? I'd love to start, but have no idea what to look for when purchasing the equipment. Thanks Jules

I keep cans in the basement and extra cooking pans there too. I cannot keep boxed items or I get mice in my old home. I love your "grocery store!"

Do you ever have items that go out of date? If so, do you continue to use them? Or does it depend on what it is? When you buy a case of green beans for example do they go in storage & the one in storage come out? So you keep them rotated & hopefully in date.

My goal for this year is to get more organized in the grocery department. I end up having to go to the store every other day for 2 or 3 things so I'm REALLY trying to buy a weeks worth of groceries and THATS IT! but I'm just sooooo bad at it!

I had the idea of looking up food storage tours and YOURS is at the top of the list! :) You never know what kind of disaster may strike. Whether it be natural disasters or not! Power outages, contaminated water (happened to our city and ALL the water was gone at the stores! For 3 days we had to boil water!). You've seen how crazy it can get in the stores once a disaster strikes! Also, food prices go up! If you don't have food storage or don't have the desire to do this, I suggest befriending a Mormon. Lol! Thanks for sharing this video!!!

Its sad that you only want to befriend a Mormon because of their food storage.. i do food storage because of what my german grandparents and stepdad taught me. They been throug 2 world wars. We were always self sufficient.

I enjoyed seeing your room! One of the easiest way to get self stable food is this: Choose 10 Self Stable Meals your family enjoys. Get enough to make each meal 10 times. Wahlaa! You have 100 meals!

I think it is a very smart idea to have some sort of emergency supply. Our town was hit by a tornado this spring and that demonstrated fully to many how smart it is. So far this year since April, there's been a devastating number of natural disasters, such as an F-4 tornado, Hurricane Harvey, Hurricane Irma, wildfires in the Pacific Northwest, and so on. Having a ready supply would be extremely helpful, not crazy.

I usually buy whole wheat flour for my bread but I never realized how easy it was to grind!! Do you have to have a wheat mill machine or do you think I could do it in my Ninja food processor? How do you know if it's ground appropriately? Thank you for teaching me this! Love you and your channel so much!

This is awesome! I think this is such a good idea. As long as it's not bordering on food hoarding.. I wish we could do this but it's just my husband and I and we are full time RVers and don't have the space.

Do you garden and can your own produce? I am in my 2nd year of canning and have not had to buy any tomato products for 2 years. That includes spaghetti sauces and even paste. Going to grow different veggies this year so I can stockpile on them also. We have apple and pear trees on our property that I am also using.
