My mother and Grandmother said being busy kept the devil away. I asked who that was and was told him who brings nasty thoughts. When you are busy, you will be happy. Yet they were always busy but never rushed. They prepared the tea meal during the day so they didn't have to worry about time factor. And I remember they did it together, but sat down. I was only allowed to watch at first. 80 years ago nearly.

Через 4 года, в 67 лет, если доживу, я выйду на пенсию и вернусь в дом моих прадедов. Я буду делать то же самое. Maria is no doubt following old traditional methods passed down to her by mother aunts or grandmother. My mother never weighed anything. Like Maria, a cupful or glassful etc. She said it came naturally when you had done it so many times. But if she asked me to help, she was very exacting. Kidney beans cut at a certain angle. Never asked her why, just got on with it.

You cook like my mom did. She learned from her parents, my grandparents, that immigrated to Canada from Ukraine. They were farmers in Saskatchewan. It was a very hard life for them at first. Winters were terrible. I mostly have to measure ingredients for things like breads. Thank you for the video.

My mother and grandmother from Czechoslovakia also made a poppy seed roll. I don't think either did the poppy seed filling from scratch. I believe it came in a can. It was great except for the seeds that stuck in the teeth!

А по большому счету, надо было бежать от русских, а не цепляться за русский язык и ,,братский народ,,. Теперь от братского народа получаем ракеты . Ваш типаж, Анжелика, мне хорошо знаком. Моя соседка, любительница путина, уверяла, что если она встретит на Салтовском шоссе русские танки, то ,, брянские ребята в нее стрелять не будут,,(это цитата). Что не помешало ей, через месяц обстрелов благополучно с семьёй выехать в Польшу. Там она и сейчас находится и по телефону говорит, что скучает за Харьковом и вернётся , как только ситуация стабилизируется. Интересно, что она под этим понимает?

Thank you for showing us how you make your poppy seed bread Maria. Its a lot of hard work with all the kneading required. It really looks delish! Do you also call it sweet bread? I ask since so much sugar went into it. Again I say that you have many talents in addition to cooking and baking like singing your nice ballads then your embroidery work very exquisite and beautiful! On top of that you run a farm with everything associated with it. Where you live in the mountains is absolutely gorgeous!

Yes absolutely. Where I live many many homes display your flag including my house in our front window. They were put there when the war started. I wish Canada could sent more armaments to Ukraine but our PM Trudeau does not support our military so spends as little as possible on arming them. Despite what you have heard about him he is not a good PM!

I don't mean to hijack the thread but I'd like to remember Ukrainian staff sergeant Pavel Kuzin who was killed recently defending his men against the Russians in the battle for Bakhmut. He was leading a team of six men when they came under heavy tank fire and also relentless attack by Russian infantry. Everyone was either dead or wounded including Pavel but he manned his machine gun and kept firing to hold the Russians off so his remaining men could be rescued. He fired incessently as the shells rained down until eventually shell shrapnel hit him in the head and killed him. But the two surviving members of his team were saved. He literally gave his own life for his brothers in arms. He leaves behind a wife and child. Just one of the many Ukrainian heroes who are fighting so bravely to drive the orcs from their land. Slava Ukraini. Heroyam slava.
