You're supposed to use the marinate mode on the FoodSaver. It will cycle several times allowing the meat to rest between suctions.

If you're having trouble getting the hose to suck, be sure it's pushed in as far as it will go into the unit. Took me a few mins to fig out since the manual doesn't specify. There's a device inside the hose attachment receptacle that has to be unseated in order for it to work.

Ours came with some resealable bags. I was thinking of getting a nicer Betty Crocker plastic container from the Dollar Store and doing this. It's a nicer, thick, clear container and I think it would hold up well without bending. We've been getting our coffee as whole bean directly from the plantation in Costa Rica, so we don't get them with the air valve. Buying the resealable bags is probably the cheapest option.

It does do a nice job or marinating. I notice with my vacuum sealer model, it will cycle on and off a few times while marinating, so I think the reviewer may have quit sucking his meat prematurely.

all 3 pieces (top gasket bottom) are quite dishwasher safe. I've been tossing them in there for 2 years with no probs.

Mine won't stay sealed. Don't see any cracks, gasket looks good but after a few minutes it loses the seal

It does not remove the air, the vacume process drawd the juce deeper into the meat.

Timberbeast Waco I think the whole idea of vacuuming is to depressurise the container. The Foodsaver unit repeats the process by depressurise and then releasing the pressure - the marinade then drawn into the meat when the pressure is equalised.

It does both, my v5860 has 2 buttons for the vacuum sealer attachment, vacuum and marinate. The Vacuum mode isn't for marinating. I use mine all the time to vacuum with this container to seal food and keep it fresh. In marinate mode it vaccum's also. The definition of vacuum is literally "a space entirely devoid of matter" the matter here would be the air. Why do you think the marinate is drawn into the meat? Because the air is pulled out.

IS there any reason you can't just use a foodsaver bag to speed up the marinating process?

Any marinade juices will be sucked into the vacuum sealer, this opens up the meat, lending it to quicker absorption into the tissues.. but definitely using the bags for a dry rub would be awesome
