Technically the human brain is wired to be addicted to salt, regardless of the source...and that's actually the same neurological circuit some addictive drugs utilize to trigger addiction, & the biggest problem with those drugs is they bind to the reward centers more strongly than salts do, so it actually will disrupt your ability to consume salt, since the drugs effectively have replaced salt as the thing that is to be "rewarded" for consuming.. As for residual pheromones... that's not possible since the heat used to evaporate the water, would have broken down those compounds, & in effect, rendered them entirely inert.

The fact that Steph's tears were immediately dispersing across her cheeks may have been caused by her foundation. If her foundation is hydrophilic, then the tears would not bead up compared to MatPat's skin which is naturally hydrophobic. It honestly would be really interesting to have Steph use foundation on one side of her face only and then test to see if her tears bead up on the side without foundation. You also probably had more salt present in your tears than you thought too. As mentioned, our tears have mucus present in them, and mucus contains salts (~1%) to prevent aggregation from occurring so that should be taken into account as well when calculating the total salt concentration in tears.

Honestly it's not gross to boil it, you know that all liquids will fly away, and bacteria will burn to death pretty fast. You might also think about salt is very anti-bacterial on it's own, because it's super dry, and bacteria needs water, which we boiled away.... this is pretty safe scientifically, which makes me not think it's that gross.

Chloride molecules are the most common salts particularly Sodium and Potassium Chlorides (I typically use a 50/50 mixture to reduce my sodium intake while boosting my Potassium a bit) but when Chlorine molecules are isolated they become a terrible gas that destroys the lungs and eyes in mere minutes.

@@eliserss9179 That's not the problem though, because rarity doesn't define the value of the person. Even if there were less woman in stem than men in stem (which there aren't) the rarity would not cause Steph to be more important towards Food Theory than MatPat. So it is absurd. After having watched the video, I believe it is to do with the moment when MatPat was talking about chemistry, where he asked for Steph's help. I believe this implies that Steph is a Chemistry major whereas MatPat is a different major. This would be a reasonably analysis, and for a person who doesn't realise that they both went to uni, this comment would be reasonable. I basically had to teach myself chemistry, I was in an online schooling program so the only contact I had with my "teachers" was when they graded my work, and maybe a few back and forth emails here and there when I had issues Wasn't fun lol, my favorite part of science was the hands on experimenting, which you couldn't get with online classes Kinda sad actually.. That was the only class that kinda sucked online tho, but only because I couldn't do the experiments myself and the stuff was hard to understand by yourself haha Had Steph taught me, I would've had a lot more fun :D

@@AkumaDayo That sounds tough!! Sorry you had to go through that :/ In my situation, we were supposed to have one science class every day, and then a second “lab” class every other day. For some reason, the teacher I had for my lab class was different than my actual chemistry teacher. Both of them taught in different ways, which were both unhelpful for me personally, but on top of that it always felt like they were teaching two different subjects despite both of them being chemistry. Neither of them were ever on the same page. It made it so much harder. Very different from yours but equally frustrating :( Glad we can agree Steph would make a great chemistry teacher!!!!

I think harvesting sweat for popcorn would be incredibly gross, but there are ways to make it slightly less gross. 1: I would recommend showering before exercising, to ensure you don't have any deodorant or makeup on your skin. 2: once you get your collected liquid I would suggest leaving it in a sealed container and letting it sit for a few days, preferably in a cold place to reduce the growth of bacteria. This step will help the skin cells separate out, giving your final product a lot less cloud. and then 3 I would suggest using a pipette to extract the liquid from the area between the skin cells at the bottom and the area at top to help reduce the amount of body oils/fats you'll be collecting. after this you should have mostly salt, water, and bacteria, which you can boil away into a bunch of salt and dead bacteria.

If you want to harvest your sweat for salt, there is a little bit of a process you could use. 1) Pick your heavily absorbent clothes. Think like terrycloth robes, but full-body. You do want a cotton base. That said, you first need to make sure these clothes have been washed, and rinsed MANY times, with distilled, de-ionized water. Then dry REALLY well. 2) Make sure you're well showered in advance, well rinsed, and well dried. You don't want ANY of the soap from the shower in this. 2) Wear those full-bod out-fits and get a sweatin' ! Sauna, exercise, and the like. All are equally plausible. Do this for as long as you can stand. 3) Use more distilled, de-ionized water to thoroughly rinse the clothes WITHOUT washing them. Soak for a long time, then ring them out, and rinse a couple more times. Maybe even in an agitator, or an ultra-sonic system, to remove as much material from the clothes as you can. 4) Run the resulting water through an activated carbon filter. This will remove the NON-salt impurities, like make-up, residue from any soap, any dead skin cells, etc. 5) Now you have your salt-in-water solution, and just boil it! Then you can enjoy the fruits of your labours! In this method you'll actually end up getting a MUCH safer material for human consumption! As only dissolved salts will be present in the water afterwards, and boiling the water will remove any potential bacterial contaminants. Ergo the end-product SHOULD be completely safe!

The funniest part about this episode is the fact that it teaches the most science that has ever been thaught on this channel. Also, I know that they were giving a basic explanation but for those who don't know, the salts they were talking about are called binary salts, meaning that they're made from ions and only need those two molecules. If you were to really define a salt, it would just be a metal combined with a the backend of an acid.
@ewoodley82

There are actually bottles made for collecting tears. Collecting tears was a mourning ritual for ancient Romans and Israelites. They used to collect tears and keep them as a symbol of love and respect for the person who died. The bottles themselves are super ornate and beautiful. I really want to see an episode where you guys try all the ways/theories people to stop or reduce crying while chopping an onion. For sweat, I'd recommend getting this thing that "helps you lose weight." It's a sort of clothing item that keeps your entire body, excluding your head, covered up. You create lots of sweat and it's bad for your health due to overheating, which is why it's perfect for this theory
