Because she was restricted to using meat and rice. Wagyu is a really good type of meat In which she specializes In but its flavor comes off strong and if things start clashing in the dish which was shown off in the episode it will taste worse. She had to go simple because the more complex it is the more flavors are added in and if the flavors can’t mix well then her dish has failed so it was probably the best thing she could make with such restrictions

Butter-basted wagyu is far too rich for just plain white rice, she desperately needed something to balance out the richness, and we know she could've mixed something into the rice or made a sauce for balance since Soma did both in the anime. She got cocky and thought the quality of the meat alone would've guaranteed her a win, and paid for it

@theluckygamer10 I have tried wagyu but never butter wagyu. I knew it tasted stronger than normal but I thought normal rice would be fine since it’s rice and wouldn’t mess up with the flavor that much. I can now see why the rice would be inefficient now

Whenever I rewatch this show, the food just looks so good it makes me hungry. So whenever I watch an episode, I always make sure to have either a snack, or depending on the time of day, a whole meal with me

learn to actually cook some halfway decent food and youll realize this anime is mostly for entertainment purposes, not real life actual food and youll see how unrealistic and overdramaticised it is. after that youll take it for what it is, a low denominator thoughtless source of entertainment and the only thing thatll actually get you hungry is your ability to cook some real food... not this nonsense

It's interesting but I really think this show shows a lot of cuisine techniques. So here's my ramble. Though sorry for the lack of names, the food was literally the only thing I cared about this show. It makes me think that the staff only cared about bodies and food. Humans are just annoyingly in the way. The main character guy seems to specialize in Street Food. Food made from you have on hand and can be made fast and on the go. It's not fast food because it is not made to be generally liked. He makes the best out of less. Also, something tell me that the best Street Food Vendors are people who can either connect with the local community and/or make a show out of their dish. Think of it like a vendor calling you by name or having one of those vendor that seems to somehow make your eyes sparkle when they cook. The blond girl with my definition of hell for taste bud. Makes me think of Haute Cuisine. Since it's Cuisine based on High Quality. I will hate to have her taste, bud, because everything out of that quality range must taste so awful. No wonder one of her best friends is pretty much a medic/cook. The shy blue hair girl makes me think of Slow Food. A political response to Fast Food. Which is based on local tradition and growth. While also being made with care and attention. Which perfectly fits her. She makes food while taking in mind what the people around her might need. And learned a fish cutting technique to not let a tradition die. It was a tradition that was essential to bring tourism and founding in a small town. Frankly, I don't really know what to say about Meat Girl. I mean, I think it is just simply meat based food. For example, her rice paled in comparison because of how well she works with meat. I guess sometimes you might only be a Master of One. But you are still a master at it. I don't really know about country and ethnicity based cuisine. Mainly because it's highly steep in their culture and ways of life. Which I don't think I can explain on my own with any of the passion it deserves. The Molecular Girl is really about what makes a good dish. Is pretty much someone's entire degree on your plate. Or maybe their finding of what makes food, food. There's also the creepy girl that does creepy dishes. Which is an interesting take on food as a performance. I mean, horror is a genre. The only other one I remember is the girl that calls everyone she sees as lesser, cute. She makes cute pastries and fluffy desert. But like pastries aren't always made with a smile and soft hands. I mean, I made breads with chocolate chips. And I can tell you, I always beat all my frustration mid way through it.
