+Food Wishes Actually it depends on the bake. The method I used was putting the wonton wraps in a cupcake tray, baking them till golden brown, then put the filling in and baking again to heat. True it doesnt have that deep fried crunch but it still had a crunch nonetheless. Came out really good. Also everyone should know this recipe! Crab Rangoon is amazeballs. Thanks for making this! :D

+Food Wishes If people are worried about frying because of health reasons, they should just fry in organic expeller-pressed coconut oil. It's awesome for frying. It's more nutritious and less toxic than conventional "vegetable oil", and it doesn't leave a nasty residue in your frying equipment like the vegetable oils do. I love deep frying with coconut oil. I do avoid using my really good extra virgin CO because it tastes too much like coconut when I'm frying things that should keep their own flavor. The fried foods shouldn't come out too greasy if you're doing it right--that is, making sure to wait until the oil comes to 350 degrees before adding the food, and draining the food well after cooking.

Chef John, delicious recipe. Thank you! I wanted to share a tip I learned while watching Martha Stewart. Martha had a guest Chef on who owns a restaurant that serves fresh pasta. While making ravioli, he used a spay bottle set to a light mist to moisten the pasta. I've been using this technique ever since when working with pasta or won tons. It works perfectly and saves a lot of time when making large batches.

Long time listener, first time call, made these with an extra kitchen hand, ( my son) we cranked out a batch of these, but we don't have a deep frier; followed the folding directions on the wonton wrapper package. Kinda look like frog legs with their ankles pinched together. They laid more flat in the oil. Probably never buy Rangoons at any restaurant near us again! Thanks Chef John!!

Everywhere except here in the southeast part of the country. The folks here season EVERYTHING with sugar of all things! Especially dishes which are commonly considered savory have sugar added down here 😳 It's nice to see them madd, in my opinion, correctly. Thank you for sharing 😊 💜

The dipping sauce is key and i have not been able to recreate or find anywhere. Deep red, glazy, sweet and tangy. People try and sub sweet n sour sauce but its not quite there. Can someone tell me if they use all this oil only once, especially for this small amount of food? or do you reuse it later? Because what it seems to me that the price of the oil is somewhat similar to the price of entire product.

I made these with everything listed here, but with ham instead of crab. Just chopped up the ham and gave it a few pulses with the food processor and they were awesome!

This turned out delicious! Yes definitely refrigerate the mixture before stuffing the wonton wrapper. It makes a big difference.

Crab rangoon in real life; they just show a picture of a crab to the cream cheese. It should be called essence of crab rangoon but that would insinuate crab in the rangoon. Yours looks better.

Thanks for sharing. I have made this before it is pretty easy to make, but they tend to explode while frying it was such a mess so I stopped making them after that first try. Do have tips to prevent the exploding episode. Thank you i advance. This is my fave snacks while living in the US now I have moved to Mlaysia and could not find it anywhere.. And I want to make it on my own.
