Jayo never getting a shot, you may be able to blame that on Lyor. The somewhat roundabout story goes. Is that Jayo Felony may have been an integral part in bringing Montell Jordan to Def Jam. Seemingly no reason to shelf him, right? Especially since Jayo was signed to Jam Master Jay Records. He himself just got on. Jayo was trying to get everybody put on. But listen to the petty. Montell was pushing to use Slick Rick's Children's Story beat for This is How We Do It. Both Lyor and Russell said, "That s#*t will never work". Well we knew what happened there. Lyor and Russell were proven wrong. Russell basically said great job. Lyor took it personal. From that point on West Coast artist on Def Jam got half way pushes and half hearted marketing. Because Jayo was the one that co-signed Montell's skill set. He got the coldest of shoulders. I don't know how true this is. But it makes sense in a way, if Lyor is petty. Me personally, I don't think Lyor is petty. He might be a bit of an a-hole, but not really petty. To him a dollar is a dollar. Plus the fact that Warren G saved Def Jam from bankruptcy a year earler. That just makes me skeptical of Def Jam sh**ing on West Coast artist. I can't see it. But you be the judge.
