Ive seen a lot of slice serve tennis videos and this is the best. especially the bonus insight at end of never breaking wrist, which takes away all the power from a service.
@TomRoyce5 жыл бұрын
I watched this video in the afternoon and took it on to the court for my match tonight. The tip on not breaking the wrist was exactly what I needed and focusing on the slice form worked. I only double faulted twice in 6 service games and had 10+ aces and most of my serves we not returned, and when they were, it was an easy put away by my partner at net. Thanks!

Just want to say thank you for uploading this. I'm a club / league player and have watched many many KZbin clips from coaches in the hope to get a consistent second serve spin / slice serve, without much success (week in week out). Your three detailed simple steps have made a huge difference and ultimately made (what used to be) a complicated action in to a very simple straightforward second serve action. Thank you:)

“Snapping the wrist” is the most misunderstood and mis-taught technique in tennis. My first few years playing, the pros at my local club would always say “snap your wrist to get the ball down!” on my serve. I took this to mean bending my wrist, and almost everybody else I play with at 3.5 thinks this as well. It wasn’t until I injured my wrist exactly where it bends, did I do further research and figured out they were teaching us to pronate wrong. Not because they didn’t know how to do it correctly, but because it just happens so naturally for them they figured everybody would know not to bend the wrist like that when you “snap” through. I wish more people would bring light on how to correctly pronate, because the majority of people do it wrong and are going to injure their wrist at some point. So thank you for actually showing how to do it correctly.

So there is no arm pronation in slice serve? I don’t see that even in Federer’s serve. I mean after slicing the ball arm turning doesn’t have an impact on the ball. At the point of contact no pronation happening?

Hi, really thanks for your tips and advices.... I do slice "quite" well but don't understand what ypu said on the wirst "don't break" cause for me the energy transfer comes from legs , body turn ... and finally the wirst (for me). I do an acceleration with the wirst just before the contact point to make the more effe t i can but don't understand HOW can i produce the slice effect with pronation. When i do slice serve my wirst go straight on but absolutely NO pronation. As if the 2 mouvement were a contradiction for me in fact. BUT ! Curiously i suffer a lot with my elbow and speciallyon serve ! Surely a thing that i do bad , thing i misunderstood so if you could illuminate my poor brain and help me to fix it, i would thank you a lot . Hurry to see your answer , and thank for your vid that you certainly do with passion. I ,we, can feel it. So thanks a lot.

Really enjoyed this video. You referred to a 'stop and pop' video, but I couldn't find it. Also a suggestion: add an 'About' section to your website with a short bio. Doesn't have to be your resume, could just be how you came to tennis and how you developed your philosophy (you've got interesting stuff to say, so should be no problem). And maybe make it easier to find your full name. Not on instagram, and only 'Steven' is available in the contact section on your website. Was beginning to think you were in witness protection.

Luba, my grips video is a ways out.. tough to ans bc various terminology for grips. My suggestion is to use a grip that naturally gives you spin, even experiment w BH grip to feel the extreme. Idk your situation but pancake grips and or lack of tricep/forearm strength are biggest inhibitors from learning kick or slice serve.
@LubaLuba16 жыл бұрын
thanks but backhand topspin grip? or flat grip? basically the index knuckle should be on side 1?
@15PointsOfTennis6 жыл бұрын
Sry I’d have to see a diagram. But yeah anything that allows you to pronate without breaking ur wrists
@LubaLuba16 жыл бұрын
15 Points Of Tennis so when you say don't break your wrist you mean physically pronate but don't hurt myself? or keep in hammer holding position at contact?
@15PointsOfTennis6 жыл бұрын
I explain briefly in the online program.. basically cocked, neutral and broken wrist positions. Strong in cocked and neutral but weak in broken. Try holding ur hand palm up then turn to palm down. You can use your forearm without breaking wrist. I’ll likely do a vid down the road involving this again

Not clear where on the ball you start to hit left to right. Inside and around, like 9-3? Outside starting at 3 and around? Please clarify

The clock analogy refers to the toss/contact point. Ball will curve the opposite direction at which you brush it.
@pacerdave78386 жыл бұрын
Ok but I was looking for where on the clock I start. I assume 3 o’clock I brush right to left
@15PointsOfTennis6 жыл бұрын
Yes, for me it’s easiest to start at 3 o’clock to feel the spin. Then slowly move it up to 12 if you decide to learn disguise.

Good video! When I first started using the slice, the ball had a hard break and kicked off the court or into my opponent's backhand while I'm on the AD side...I'm a lefty...now here lately, the ball has just been floating into the court and I feel like i'm doing the same motion as before. +1 for the effort. Your slice serve is effective only b/c you are playing againts low level players. It has nothing on it. Doesn't even have a 2nd boundce into the fence, which means it is raughly 70-80mph. Every top level serve, and I mean every flat, slice or kick has pronation. If there is no pronation - it is not the correct serve technique. In this light it is very funny how you compare your serve (which doesn't even have the right kinematic) to Federer's.

Haven’t seen your serve but think finish by your left pocket? Perhaps the toss throws the swing path off. I’ll discuss this in the future but let the racquet tip snap through (with your elbow up) instead of bringing your shoulder down through and past contact. If you watch Sampras serve, the follow through is relatively compact. Hope that helps.
