When Chip touches a car something magical takes place. Its almost like the car is literally reborn. Not in a "restored old car" sense. But in an actual physical sense. Where the car becomes a child that Chip has reared. Just an amazing builder and person.

It is awesome to see such a great person be so successful at their craft and stay humble . I had the privilege of meeting chip at a show in Pasadena. My friend at the time my compadre now, we just stared and pointed with our jaws dropped as chipped walked passed us. My brother looked at us and quickly asked chip can you take a picture with my brother and his friend? Chip stopped walking looked over and say sure of course! That’s my story with a car rockstar . It’s not much, but it’s my story, with all my favorite characters in it. Thanks guys thank you chip. Keep on keeping on !!!

What an amazingly beautiful car, and as Chip said how wonderful to have someone with the money to fund this project! The extreme detail; the incredible art on paper that start or evolve what this car becomes or should I say became are beyond the description of words that are normally used to create a picture of what was and then becomes what is. A Craftsmanship from a time melded by an artist into a new time. One that is recognized. One that embodies art both inside and out of not only the car but the owners and the craftsmen who designed and made it. Amazing is one word that has come to mind.

I think (pure speculation here) they never wanted the audience to see the finished product in the video because i think this is the video they played on a continued loop in Detroit when the car was first on display at the Autorama. I was there and remember it playing on a screen below the car for people to see. They also had a stock Impala next to it with certain areas marked off with notes to show what had been modified. The "end product" was right in front of everyone on the display field. So, that's my opinion on why it was never shown on the video. They should do an "end product" part to the video though for those who weren't there.

There is a red Impala running around the Pocono area of Pa. It's a chopped convertible about a 64 or 65. I think is has some other platform under it as well. I tried keeping up with it on Rt 33 going into Bethlehem area in my Super Silverado the one with the 454 and had a hard time maintaining speed one of the factors is my truck is so heavy it doesn't brake on a dime in traffic. I was specifically interested to see if someone did something like this with that car. The car was definitely shortened for one and it sat on a some kind of nice suspension to be as nimble as it traveled along.

This is one of the reasons that Chip Foose is one of my heroes, look at his hands while he's working on the drawings of the Impala. Do you see it, the banged up knuckles, the grease under the fingernails and on the fingers. Not only can the man talk the talk, he can walk the walk. So much more than just the best custom designer on the planet, he gets down and dirty during the build.

I restore a '65 Chevy Biscayne to original "Drag Pack" optioned Biscayne, only better. The original had a 425hp 396 and 4 speed. I added a 550hp 454, Richmond 6 speed, disc brakes and Hotckis suspension. An original was going for $75K. Mine costs me $20K which included the cost of the car. The trick is finding one that doesn't need paint or body work. The best part? Because I built it and it was an original, I drove it everywhere. My neighbor, who is rich, bought my car and turned it into something that looked like a Chip Foose car. The funny part? When he brought it out, people told him he ruined the car.

Any true car lover would appreciate this incredible build if you saw it live. The owner can trailer this one, because he has several other Foose "drivers" that he shows at local small town shows without any fanfare. We should be thankful that we have "cartists" like Chip Foose, and owners like this that show and drive this art for us to see. If we don't have owners with unlimited budgets,we don't get to see builders like Chip use their unlimited imagination.

...and after all that work and expense will probably never see a 1000 miles on the road. I've got an extremely rare, first generation, left-hand drive,1968 Corolla. They only sold a little over 7000 of them in the US. It was the first year it was introduced to the US market. As far as I can tell, I've probably got the last one on the road. It's been a daily driver all it's life and will continue to be so until I or it finally dies. It was 20 years old when I got it so no way to know for sure what the actual mileage was. The odometer rolls over every 99,999.9, but I've put almost 800,000 on it myself. It just hit 50 years old. It'll probably outlast me...I spent a couple of years tracking stuff down and just did a complete engine rebuild inside and out with brand new factory parts. Crankshaft, cam, lifters, rockers, rods, pistons, valves, everything (could NOT find a distributor though and am resisting going electronic, it's worn but still good. Same basic "K"engine later did away with points Starlets had electronic but I can't find any.) Next year I might work on some of the "pretty" stuff, time for new paint too. Too late to make a long story short...point is...cars are supposed to be driven. I didn't do all that so I could stare at it in my driveway. It gets me to work and back every day. Last offer I got was $22,000. I paid $300 for it 30 years ago.

@Ockie Ditchbank it doesn't mean it's a bad thing though. Besides with what he goes through in this vid shows he could if he wanted to. I like classic restores but I don't act like a snob just because someone turns it into a hotrod.

I appreciated the honesty of the owner when he said, 'I can't afford to build a car like this.' The level of craftsmanship it's almost hard to comprehend. I'm building up my Chevy SS, aka Holden Commodore, and it's costing me an arm and a leg. It's my own version of a 'bucket list build.' While I didn't coin that phrase, but it is accurate.

6 years of a shop billing premium "spare no expense" time/material. I wouldn't be surprised... But would the car be any less good if only 3-5 years of time was spent on it, and more stuff was CNC machined?

gdub454 Or something? That deep insight came out as your spincter muscle loosened for a micro second as that thought oozed out of your brain between reruns of the Jerry Springer show. Yes, "oh enlightened one", there have been many of these cars like the one offs built by custom car builders like the Ring Brothers that were a million dollars or approaching that figure.

I m a graduate of the Syracuse University School of Visual and performing Arts and a sort of phantom designer in the way of auto body design. All I can say Chip is that you continue to blow mw away with every stroke of your drawing medium and I look upon your work as only something to aspire to I love what you've done here with this Chevy Impala,,,,,AWESOME. god bless you its insanely sick. I love it.

One of the best design elements of the '65 Impala is that the tail lights did stick out, it's one the characteristics that attarcted me to that model year. Not everything needs to be "flush mounted".

After my mom passed to cancer in June of 1983, my grandmother let me use her 65 Impala SS from Christmas that year until I graduated in June of 84. Not thinking much past the next weekend, I didn't think to tell her I would like the car after I got out of training. So, she sold it. Thirty years later I move back to WA state, Dec 2013, and purchased another 65 Impala SS. It wasn't exactly the same as someone had put a cam and performed other engine work as well as put a T400 engine from a 78 truck on her. They also put an Edelbrock manifold and carb on it. I have done a lot, new front end, spring (suspension), brakes (front disk), steering, gas tank, exhaust, rebuilt radiator and a few other minor things. I purchased a new wiring kit for the car, but have been a bit apprehensive about replacing it as I am not sure I didn't get myself over my head on that part of it. I have an electronics background, from the Army, but I also have a number of disabilities from the military. Most of them are internal, but it can limit the time I spend on the car and it seems every time I work on it, or have someone work on it, there is something else we find wrong. While I know and don't expect this car to ever be a show car, I hope it will one day become a driver I can use and cruise through the mountains and forest trails with. Eventually I would like to give it to my daughter. I just need it safe and comfortable to do so. If anyone happens to read this and knows of some wiring harness replacement videos, I would appreciate a link so I can avoid any hidden 'gotchas' I might run into. Thanks
