The fact that his social worker was shocked that he was left unsupervised with a 10 year old says alot. And the fact that mom was pretty monotoned says she not very suprised. So sad

The mom was very emotionless the entire time. You can tell she didn't pay him a lot of attention, maybe if she got off her phone. There would be times he'd be talking to her and she'd be doing something on her phone, ignoring him. It's no wonder he turned out the way he did.

@kazutarida unfortunately I agree. of course if he KNEW this would happen he wouldn't have moved in, duh. But it's when parents assume stuff like this will never happen to them, that's when this shit happens. My mom would move in her scary crackhead boyfriends all the time when I was a kid, and I would have to keep me and my sister safe. That's what finally made my mom come to her senses, when we straight up told her "it's us or these boyfriends" and luckily for me and my sister our mom got better, but many kids in our situation get abused or assaulted. I still deal with trust issues and paranoia, so I definitely agree that even tho the dad didn't want his daughter to die, it was very irresponsible to move in with a woman and her kids. It was also very irresponsible for the mom to let a man and his kid move in with her and her kids so soon! It could've very easily been her kid that got hurt, you just never know who you are talking to.

A 15yo and a 10yo leave to walk to store at 7pm? And mom was aware? Parents dont call police until midnight? What happened at 8pm? 9pm? 10pm? 11pm? These kids smoking weed. Stealing from stores. Breaking into cars. What was going on in this house??? I feel like these parents need to be looked at more in depth.

@bsmith7
@bsmith7 9 күн бұрын
 @Welcometotherox literally, not to mention, as someone from a small town, it's totally normal here for kids to be out until 10 or 11 at night. Esp when they're with an older sibling to take care of them. There's no point in blaming the parents, we've seen kids with stricter parents and caring parents do the same and worse to their families. ETA: commented this before finishing the video so I wanna clarify my thoughts more. Should the parents have done more? Yes. Could they have been more responsible? Yes. But do I believe that would have prevented this from happening? Maybe to this little girl, but not to someone else. I don't think they were good parents but he was clearly very disturbed, and I don't think any kind of parenting would have stopped him from committing such an evil act. Last edit because i cant reply to everyone: I didn't say that there aren't any scenarios where kids aren't safe being out late. If you live somewhere dangerous, yeah, keep your kids inside. All my original comment meant was that as someone from a small town just out of my teenage years, kids being out late doesn't necessarily mean the parents are negligent or bad parents, or even that the kids are up to no good.

Look, I hated my little step sisters when I was younger. But when one of them never came home after they got off the bus, I was genuinely terrified for her. When the cops showed up I took them to every single hiding spot we had in the neighborhood in hopes of finding her, and sure enough we did find her. She decided to run away because she got in trouble at school. But I cannot tell you how relieved I was to find her hiding instead of finding out she was kidnapped. This mother recognized that her son had a problem and utilized everything she could to help him, i.e. constant therapy, police, institutions, medications. I still wonder why nobody is blaming the father for not watching his daughter 24/7, for not telling her to stay away from Aidan, to never be alone nor leave the house with him. Looking at the whole thing, and although it is of course easy to see errors with hindsight, I wonder if, with some different input earlier, this could have been avoided.

If only it was that simple. A CPS worker can request all kinds of things, but a supervisor, judge and the states laws have to agree. We can’t lock someone away who may “ potentially” be unsafe. I certainly wish we could as I often think what’s the point of forensic psychology, assessments, and diagnoses if we can’t do anything about it preventatively. Hell, we can’t even give juveniles a personality disorder diagnosis, even if they meet the textbook criteria given that only those 18 years and above can receive those diagnoses. Moreover, the family can just choose not to share the diagnosis with anyone so others won’t be aware, anyways. I heard a brilliant therapist once say that the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree and I’m thinking his mom is a good example of this. I imagine she might have a lot of these similar characteristics and behavioral issues in her own history and even at present.

Do you know that for sure…? I mean are you somekind of expert when it comes to psychology and/ or sociopathic behaviors or are you just being completely insensitive yourself by passing judgement on this horribly sad and tradgic situation? I don’t know if you are a parent yourself but I am and as I was listening to this child speak about what happened I first thought of this poor girl and I almost couldn’t even listen anymore because I just couldn’t bare to hear what was about to come next in what would be mine or any loving parent’s worst nightmare. On that same note, I think the mother of this boy has dealt with his serious mental health issues for his entire life and I am certain that it has been anything but an easy time for her. She was possibly hopeful that her son was improving and I can see that she absolutely does love her son very much just by the way she reacted when she asked him for a hug and I could tell as a mother that she just wanted to hold her boy in her arms. At the same time she knew that she needed to do what was necessary of her in order to get the truth from him and she knew as his mom that that meant she needed to not let her emotions overcome her and that she needed to keep it together in order to do that. I am sure that the police even schooled her on this beforehand. I think that this is not only something absolutely horrific and beyond devastating for Jacoby to endure but also for Aiden’s mother to have to live through now knowing that this tragedy occured and I guarantee you that this poor mom will live a life of hell on earth from here on out for the rest of her life. There won’t be a single day that goes by for the rest of her life that she won’t blame herself for failing her son and her boyfriend’s daughter. She feels the death of two children even though only one died. It’s easy to sit back and judge somebody’s situation that you don’t have the slightest clue about what it is that they are going through, but you have no right to speak about what somebody else feels unless you have walked in their shoes and even then…I think it’s sad that so many people want to constantly blame the parent for anything that goes wrong in a child’s life. It just goes to show how many people are really ignorant when it comes to the mental health of a child. It’s sad, because we always look at certain mental health issues as somebody being a bad person and somebody being evil because they were born with or have developed certain traits in which suggest that they have some serious mental health issues and so those people who suffer from those issues are afraid to speak up about it and they don’t receive the help that they need to prevent something like this happening. Really it’s a matter of something going wrong in the wiring of that person‘s brain and it shouldn’t even have ever come to this but unfortunately for something that is as tragic as this, we don’t do enough research we don’t do enough educating of others or bring enough awareness of mental health. Don’t get me wrong, this boy has something seriously wrong with him and what he did was clearly the most horrible thing that any human being could be capable of doing and it sickens me that he did lack the empathy of what this poor girl felt and what her family would have to endure afterwards. I just feel that you are too quick to blame the person or thing responsible for what brought this on. Try to have compassion all around for this horrible thing that happened rather than being so quick to judge everything that lead to this. Thank you though for showing your concern.

I can't comprehend it either, but just need to point out that she wasn't his little sister - she was the daughter of his mother's partner of 9 months. So, there's a man, with his daughter, both taking his mother's attention and he obviously couldn't cope with it on top of his other psychological problems.

What the boy did is despicable, but the neglect from the mother is almost worse. Aidan was in and out of mental hospitals, had a history of mental and emotional problems as well as violent tendencies. He had access to marijuana and alcohol, and also apparently no one was checking to make sure he was ACTUALLY taking his medication. Jeez.

His mom just sitting on her phone multiple times during all this and not answering him or showing any sign of heartbreak over Kiayas death is absolutely disgusting. When she's hugging him he doesn't hug back, I know 15 yr old boys aren't too touchy feelie, (have 1 right now and an older one), but when they need a hug, they hug back, because they're use to getting hugs, there is some massive disconnection with this mom. And honestly, it's sounds like years of therapy with this kid, why is she bringing a man and his kids into it, she should be focused on her kids and what they need, just my opinion, my kids come first, always.

The police had been interrogating him for twelve hours. There needs to be a limit for how long a child can be questioned, because it can lead to false confessions. I'm not implying that happened here, but it does happen. Kids and mentally disabled adults may believe the only way they can escape and leave is to say what the detectives want to hear.
@billofrightsamend4

The question's they are asking aren't questions. This is how innocent people get convicted. There's another case in California. They charged the people. The counselors questioned the children the same way the police officers are questioning this boy. When the kids got older they came forward and said the folks questioning them didn't let them talk, they just said did they touch you here and here. After hours of questions the kids just went along with what they said.

@@TexasMadeKD The outcome of this case is not the issue, but how minors need special protections when dealing with the police, whether guilty or not. They're not mature enough nor equipped to handle the legal system by themselves, and should have an advocate that can represent them, if not a parent, then especially a lawyer. Did you know your legal rights at age 14? I'm sure no child knows the police are allowed to lie to get a confession. My goal for commenting is to protect the innocent, not the guilty.

For anyone wondering, he was sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole after 40 years. Whats sickening is his family is trying to get him into a juvenile offenders program with the hopes of getting his eligibility parole down. This kid displayed murderous intent by beating the poor girl to death and then trying to mislead the police later. He should not be let off and instead be incarcerated for the rest of his life.

Sadly, just hearing this kid's deceit, worry for himself and himself only as well as his total inability to take accountability, this news isn't surprising. Thanks for the update on this case.
