What do you reckon? Is this one of the best footie games around, or is it just a shameless Sensible Soccer rip-off? Have a shout in the comments, and thanks for watching! :)

I can barely tell the difference between it and Sensi. If I were Hare & Co I'd have had them in court. Also, Empire Soccer ftw

It's a pretty good game, I still don't think you can beat Taito's Football Champ arcade for footballing arcade action. Shame the Amiga port of Football Champ was only so so.

@@neat3468 Goal ! Goal ! Goal ! Visco beats Taito’s Soccer Champ imho ….I’ve always loved footie games , I love PES 5 on my OG Xbox too . Current day footie games pale in comparison, PES 5 controls faster and better, the backward trend and decline of (Western ) civilisation is noticeable in videogames as well…

@@neat3468Oh , well I already have the Taito Classics or whatever it’s name is . I did buy the Visco collection out of sympathy for the dev on my newest system, the Xbox One ( newest , it ‘s 13 years old but the graphics are still a feast and all these new pcs and consoles cost a lot…)

One of the great pleasures is how your subject matters are actually about the culture around the art and how they influence each other. Genuine appreciation for the British culture and this time... Croatian. As always, extremely involving work you do.

The speed boost mechanic is present in the the modern Super Arcade Football switch/pc/xbox/Playstation. Great game, worth a look if you like this style of footer game

Can't wait to watch this. I'm a huge fan of both Serious Sam and The Talos Principle and Croteam retrospectives usually don't cover this period of their history much.

A more in-depth look on the subject of one of my favourite Kim videos. In many ways, I consider the Sensible Soccer ports on the SNES to be more polished versions of Football Glory (sans the humour) that actually predated Football Glory (Super Football Glory Zero V1 & V1.1 perhaps), with their slightly bigger graphics and the fact that if you play the American version of Sensi V1.2 (Championship Soccer '94), it's probably as fast as Football Glory.

Oh my God I loved this game! I can actually still remember buying the DOS edition from Game in Loughborough purely because it had Geoff Hurst and the World Cup on the front of it. It quickly replaced my bootleg copy of SWOS as the main reason my mum would tell me to get off the family computer!

I love this retrospective on the beginnings of Croteam. I always wondered where they came from. I had been a PC user in the US since the early 90s but I never heard of Croteam until I saw and played the Serious Sam demo in the summer of 2000. I was completely blown away by the game! I couldn't believe how incredibly fun even that test demo was, especially when multiple people were playing! I've purchased and played through all of the PC Serious Sam games through the years but the original game (both First and Second encounters) are still the ones I love the most!

'Never played Sensible Soccer'. Absolute nonsense really lol. One of the biggest games on the Amiga throughout every version. You couldn't escape Sensie in the press and anyone who played it loved it. The chances of making a game that looks exactly like it as nigh on impossible. I have never heard of this game until today, so I will definitely check it out. Thanks again.

CORRECTION: "Croatia had no previous history.." Actually, although it was during the times of when Croatia was still a part of Yugoslavia, e.g. Bug Byte's well known game Kung Fu from 1984 was written for the ZX Spectrum by a Croat, Damir Muraja. There were a few more, but Kung Fu was probably the biggest one.

I can't take anything CU Amiga says seriously, the magazine that gave Rise of the Robots a solid 80-something percent. Stopped buying it after that. Course, this was before that, but always remember that when quoting them. As for the game, sadly I never played it, looks fun. The promise of SWOS meant that any football related game purchases were of until I got my hands on that. Poor timing, I guess.

I'm not reallly a football fan for either side of the pond. I do love me some serious sam. first/second encounter are pretty good. Serious sam 2 is an amazing game that for some reason got demonized by people who never played it. serious sam 3 and onward sucks.

The actual football was kinda arse compared to Sensi, but i loved the atmosphere and all the little things going on on the pitch. More modern games should have on-pitch disruptions and showcase "that" side of football. FIFA is, obviously, squeaky clean football mafia bullshit. But even a lot of the modern indie football games are more cutesy anime style affairs that just lack bite (Or an understanding of football culture). But then again i'm a cynical bastard who makes video games where people explode into gory bits, so maybe i'm a bit biased to a certain presentation.
