I have to disagree. Tactically less worked or was viable. It's not quite as bad as the year where gegenpress was an auto win. Defensive tactics, low blcoks, standing off were not viable at all. So 24 was not a diverse game. The AI transfers while improved was still janky and annoying. It became easier to just meet whatever the AI asking price was and it was harder to sell players for more than what the generated value was. I'm happy to skip a year when it's a good game that I'm enjoying. I stopped playing FM24 months and months ago and probably got less hours in than in previous titles.

That's exactly it. CM4 was a peetty big drop off from the CM3 games and I believe the last time they switched engines. @Scott_M3 ай бұрын

Us 'grognards' - the players who've been in the spreadsheet simulator since the early 2010s are fading out of their scopes.
@MrM2309-w3w3 ай бұрын
Hit the nail on the head. What made the game unique for me was the attention to detail needed, but more recent releases, and the clear direction the game has now headed towards, is resulting in a management game moving away from trying to produce as realistic a management sim as possible. I mean, now with them permanently removing shouts, there is no longer any way you can influence a game throughout the 90 minutes. it will become who has the best / broken tactic simulator. Communicating with your players is integral to man management, and i can't believe they've permanently removed it, rather than try to improve it, if they were not content with how it had functioned. So I've quit the series as FM will now only go downhill and given EA FC a try this year, and if they play their cards right they can attract FM players that aren't satisfied with the new lack of depth the game will now have. Even though it's strictly not a full out management sim, now FM no longer has depth, it's not so unique anymore. And the fact I can actually hands on make an impact on the game in EA FC by playing the match in a style that complements the roles they've introduced in the new tactical creation on FC, is actually really good. Hopefully EA continue to develop this further, because that's become my new game since FM is no longer a realistic management sim. Best decision I have made moving to EA FC this year.
@vermilion78433 ай бұрын

@@vermilion7843 UI overhaul, plus a lot of features being removed, makes it more accessible for casual players. I’ve been playing since 1993 when it was Championship Manager, and with each new generation you usually get more added to the game, not removed! From 93 to 95 when CM2 was released there were refinements and added features, then from CM2 to CM3 in 99 there were more refinements and features, then when CM4 was introduced in 2003 there were more features, when it switched from Eidos to SEGA in 2005 and Football Manager was launched, and every iteration since, it’s been more refinements and features with each version. Now they’re seemingly removing quite a lot of core features and it feels like that is being done to appeal to the LARGE amount of people who try it and are intimidated by it
@MrM2309-w3w3 ай бұрын
@@vermilion7843 Well, it felt for me the significant shift was after FM23. That game was designed to be their most realistic / challenging engine. But, many players found it too hard, to the point they were not enjoying the game and refused to then play it. So follows FM24, where all you need to do is gegenpress to win with minimum effort. I took Standard Liege to a UCL quad my third season in an online game. That shouldn't really be happening. With SIs objective quite clear in looking to attract a newer and younger generation over different platforms, they can't really go in the in depth realistic direction, because it will put all those players off - hence, the changes and simplified version they are pushing forward with. Perhaps in several years time once they have secured that younger player base, they may then want the game to be more challenging - of which they may then look to go again in a direction to make the game a bit more realistic and challenging. But at this point in time, I don't see that happening anytime soon.

Yes, the game will be lacking features at start, probably to be added later on. It was always the case for those games. Would I want them to skip this year and release next year? Yes, but that's annual title. One thing I am certain off is Miles and co. delivering the goods. I have been with Sports Interactive and Championship Manager from CM3 onwards with CM01/02 being one of my all time favorite games. I at least have confidence in them. Unlike other companies it's the game I am looking forward to getting.

The new Engine is a massive step in a much needed direction. I do feel like it's a massive challenge considering how detailed FM as a game typically is. I can see this one being seen as somewhat of a test game in itself and FM26 may be the most 1.0 type of game
@info03 ай бұрын
@@Vizeh yeah it was similar to when CM4 was released and I hated it with passion at that time. It was lacking. Like I wrote, it's something they do. You're right though. Porting everything to new engine is definitely a hassle and they mentioned it on their blog that they had trouble with some stuff, so they are not going to be in this year (International Management is out). There are things I liked to see though, new interface looks really well and uncluttered compared to what we have now. We shall see what we get when we get it ;). Fm25 might be testing the waters and getting LOTS of feedback from fans :)

I think the problem most people have is that we’ve been told so many things are being removed that people essentially loved and didn’t want removed, we were looking forward to trailer that could possibly reduce some of our concerns and it didn’t show anything and they are still making us pay £40 for the game without virtually not knowing anything about the game
@Jur1_003 ай бұрын
@@quaviiaif I'm being honest I think most people are complaining because they just want to complain. I would love to see how these people have played the game for like 5 years and see if it's congruent with what they are complaining about. But one thing that's undeniable is that it's not looking good at the moment.
@info03 ай бұрын
@@quaviia that's internet life for you. Back in the days you wouldn't have trailers and stuff and you never knew what were you getting. only could deduce from press reviews. Those were fun days. Now we are just spoiled. Football Manager needed to move to new engine. They couldn't push that old one anymore, especially in physics calculations while in games. I believe that new engine will solve some apparent issues the game had in gameplay too (like hitting bar/post 20x in a match, better player animations, adding more realistic dribble moves, making the game more alive?). Doing what they are doing is a tremendous task at hand and they started it 2 years ago if I recall. Management games are great, because you can skip them for a year and I believe there will be beta/demo coming out before the game full release, so you can always decide whether to buy the game or not. FM24 will still be getting community updates if FM25 is not up to par. That's what makes this game great. It's it community ;).
@Espeo3 ай бұрын
Honestly, I don't even really care too much about how the game is, I'll probably still buy it anyway. My only annoyance is the international management being taken out because I actually like working from being unemployed, going to club and then eventually working my way up to being a national team manager. I just hope when it gets put back in in fm26 it's actually worth the wait

As long as they only apply the new engine aspects to the in-game graphics, I don't feel that we have that much to worry about. The minimum requirements are still really low, so I'm guessing that they didn't do a complete overhaul. Also, as long as the off-field stuff is pretty much the same, we're still going to love it. Wow, Vizeh, I didnt know you play FM that much, maybe do an FM series on the channel now that you have fallen out of love with FIFA? I have recently started playing FM coming from FIFA myself, did a short FM23 career and now got FM24 when it was free, it s been an absolute rollercoaster and I intend to stick with it for a while. The problem with FM 25 isn’t necessarily the new direction as for now it seems to be just a reskin (though chasing the “wider audience” tends to mean making things worse for your core audience and it will take an adjustment period. I wonder if you can mod the new system to make it look like the old one, probably not), the same amount of detail is still there but that they clearly have underestimated the amount of work the new engine is going to take and they are now most likely going to deliver a bug-filled game since they have to get it out. I mean, they have so little faith in the game that they still haven’t shown us much of anything. The game is due to be released in 2 months. They are announcing more of what gets cut than what’s actually in the game, no one is going to get hyped for that. At least they are transparent unlike EA that would cut things WITHOUT telling us, but still. It smells like a vintage Paradox release and trust me, that s not a good thing. Miles is crying that he has to miss conferences in order to get the game done. Christ above mate, you have Zoom, I honestly don’t give a damn, just tell me what state the game is in. No, it s not women s football that is the issue (except that for some reason they are removing player weights because of it, which doesn’t really matter but it is weird), it s the fact that they are constantly announcing what is cut from the game and not showing us anything new. They waited like a month to give us….a roadmap of when they will be announcing something. Lads, you are not GTA, people will not fawn over every little crumb. International management is barebones, yes (no talking to your players, no training, AI managers don’t rest their players etc), that s why people aren’t playing it but the solution is making it BETTER, not binning it. They said they will for FM 26. Hopefully they will. Idk, this might come across as too aggressive as I do really like the game, I wouldn’t have even thought it is possible if it hadn’t existed already but I do think that there will be important bugs at launch and they will have to work hard to fix them which will delay people s saves etc. so I will just stick to my 24 save for now, they should have probably just taken the year off but they probably need the money. Hell, in my current 24 save I started in Romania and I discovered that the Romanian cup is wrong even now, you play random teams in the group stage rather than the ones in your group the way you are supposed to. Hope that our fears are unfounded and the game turns out fine but it really doesn’t look like it. The engine is dated but fine, I can tell what is going just fine with the current one as well but yeah, really not 2024 standard by any means. Speaking of getting into the game, what most puzzled me at the start is that start screen with loading leagues, I had to do tests myself to understand what “2 star game speed” means nevermind usual stuff like a lot of info thrown at once (I have played Paradox games too so I am used to that), no overall rating for players etc

When FM is having a massive overhaul. You would think they would have a massive promotion and fanfare on this. Making it a massive release with so much to show off. But it has been a release where they expect people to basically purchase a car, but know nothing at all about it until they receive it. I have always had my reservations over SI over the years anyway. Especially the issue there was over changing from Championship Manager to Football Manager name, and the whole Eidos and Sega thing. However, when there is a massive chance to have a massive promotion over a massive change like their planning, it is a complete anti-climatic occurrence of a release for a game. I have loved this series of game since the very first game of it, and now it just really seems like their milking it rather than loving it with passion like its fans.

Dates WAAAAAAY off there The game that would eventually become Football Manager Although I didn’t pick up the first iteration of Championship Manager was then called, I certainly picked up the follow-up: Championship Manager - which was a genius move by brothers Paul and Oliver Collyer as following an absolute eruption of football games after Italia 90, which drew masses of attention to Serie A and an absolute plethora of the worlds top players at the worlds top clubs, which included Channel 4’s live coverage of a Sunday Serie A match plus a Saturday morning preview and a Sunday evening review of all the games. Combined, Championship Manager absolutely blew up. It was a perfect storm of coming together. In 2003, Sports Interactive and Eidos went their seperate ways. SI kept a hold of the database and match engine, using both to release Football Manager (same name as my first ever football manager game on the Commodore 64, and publishers Eidos brought in Beautiful Game Studios to create Champiinship Manager. It done ok for a while before falling behind and disappearing until it was brought back in 2010 or 2011. Square Enix Europe, owners of the brand after purchasing Eidos, revived Championship Manager under the title of Champ Man in 2013.

The early access has nothing to do with bug fixes. They just want easy money from players that pre order the games already finished if they off you early access. Yes it can help in finding bugs but that isn't the reason for game company allowing early access. I haven’t bought it for years. I went back and played FM 2005 and 09 and they were superior in design aesthetic and they felt better. The flaw in their game design is the CA and PA aspects, you can’t really get players like Michu at Swansea who blossom later in their careers because these two mechanisms aren’t fluid enough. It feels too regimental, too stiff and not like real football. It’s good fun, it’s as close as you can get to feeling like a football manager and living in a ‘snow globe’ like sandbox world of football and I love it for that… BUT they need to sit down and rethink everything because they’ve been pumping out game after game that’s quite similar for years.

I think with me, I got bored by the amount of time it takes to get to matches and all that extra detail. I do/have played Football Manager since FM6. At the time I was still playing Championship Manager 97/98, but switched to FM. After playing hundreds of hours, I decided to try Championship Manager 01/02 and it feels better as it only takes just over an hour to do a season. The team management side on Football Manager is really long winded and it has amazing detail, but getting from match to match is like 10-15 minute intervals, constantly pressing 'CONTINUE'. CM97/98 after MANY years of playing it on/off from 1998-2022, it had been a fond memory, but lacked a few advancements that I like in the Football Manager series, but wanted an in-between/upgrade to the interface and so a year on from CM97/98 and Football Manager 2018-19, I'd found what I was looking for. Forget Championship Manager 3, that game is a mistake, lol.

I had a striker who scored 55 goals in 38 games. This doesn't happen in real life. I remember another match where there were 4 penalties in a single match. It's been broken for years and it seems like they are more interested in introducing womens football and removing International Management. I also took AFC Telford from non league to League 1.
