Jack Kent Cooke was mesmerized by the Meadowlands stadium, which was built in the mid 1970s. When he started pursuing a new stadium for the Redskins in the 1980s, he basically.asked for a copy of the Meadowlands. This meant that, by the time he found a location for the new stadium and completed construction in 1997, FedEx Field was already 20 years obsolete.

I always wish the Alamodome would have gotten an NFL team. In hindsight the Raiders should have moved there instead of going back to Oakland for only 24 years. The problem with Levi’s is that it was built in Santa Clara when it was designed to be built in San Fran. Because of Santa Clara’s climate, fans are left to roast in the sun. And because of their proximity to the San Jose Airport, FAA regulations prevent them from adding any height to the stadium. Speaking of the airport, pilots have reported being blinded by the stadium lights during the night time, since it’s right in the path of a major runway.

New Comiskey Park is the foremost example of this imo. It opened in 1991, just a year before Camden Yards ushered in the MLB retro ballpark renaissance, and therefore became outdated quicker than any other stadium I can think of. Looking at it from another perspective, Fenway and Wrigley, two of the surviving ballparks from original Comiskey’s generation, hung on long enough for jewel box parks to come back into vogue and therefore benefitted from massive renovations and are now beloved. If they hold off on building the new ballpark for another decade or so they might never have rebuilt it at all and we’d be talking about the White Sox playing in an iconic, world class venue to this day.

Unforgettable. Cleveland vs Buffalo 2007 or 2008. Ice Bowl 1967. The Alamodome does not deserve the hate. San Antonio built a fine venue and maintained it well. They just couldn't get a permanent NFL team because Texas already has two. It's not the most exciting venue on the inside, but San Antonio needed something practical first. I think it would be neat if they just redid the roof to make it retractable. It looks like that would not be all that difficult to change given the design of the stadium. Nissan Stadium was built "on the cheap" when it was Adelphia Coliseum, and its replacement is already under construction next door.

They had the option to do so but didn't want it. We will see if this would be a regret in the future.

@@DebitAdams It already is... C'mon it's Buffalo! It's like if the Skydome in Toronto cheaped out and never put the roof on...

@stickynorth I believe they should have built a roof. I seen other comments that it would have been difficult to build a strong enough roof to hold the heavy snow fall in the winter and that's even heavier snow than Minneapolis.

They’re only getting a new stadium to begin with due to a $600 million handout from the state of New York. Plus, Buffalo would never get a Super Bowl even if the stadium has a roof, due to the harsh winters up there.

Half the charm of watching Bills & Packers home games are they're played out in the elements. Roofs, even translucent ones, are turning the NFL into a snoozefest.
