New Comiskey Park is the foremost example of this imo. It opened in 1991, just a year before Camden Yards ushered in the MLB retro ballpark renaissance, and therefore became outdated quicker than any other stadium I can think of. Looking at it from another perspective, Fenway and Wrigley, two of the surviving ballparks from original Comiskey’s generation, hung on long enough for jewel box parks to come back into vogue and therefore benefitted from massive renovations and are now beloved. If they hold off on building the new ballpark for another decade or so they might never have rebuilt it at all and we’d be talking about the White Sox playing in an iconic, world class venue to this day.

The Alamodome does not deserve the hate. San Antonio built a fine venue and maintained it well. They just couldn't get a permanent NFL team because Texas already has two. It's not the most exciting venue on the inside, but San Antonio needed something practical first. I think it would be neat if they just redid the roof to make it retractable. It looks like that would not be all that difficult to change given the design of the stadium. Nissan Stadium was built "on the cheap" when it was Adelphia Coliseum, and its replacement is already under construction next door.
