I don't pretend I know for sure how these guys will pan out but I'm quite sure if Maye played behind LSU's OL and had Nabers and Thomas Jr to throw to, his numbers this year would have been outrageous. Slightly better OL play and Josh Downs and he put up like 40% more numbers in 2022.

People assumes that the passing success JD had was due to his WRs alone. Coaches are looking at the placement of his throws. I brought up Kyle McCord sucking this year as a counter to this argument. McCord had MHJ, Emeka, and more and still sucked so much he had to transfer to Syracuse.

@@noredoosno2929 I certainly didn't claim that. I'm simply saying that Maye was hurt by his talent and this debate would be a lot different if he had the same opportunity as Daniels. Daniels put the ball where only two amazing WR could get it on a lot of TD throws. That doesn't diminish Daniels.

He needs to sit and develop. I think Minnesota is the best place but the Patriots will pick him. He needs an offensive minded coach that will be patient. Justin Herbert had red flags and that’s a good comparison
@thatonewriter8043
@thatonewriter8043 4 ай бұрын
Justin Herbert's red flags were more speculative and less film-based. Every QB prospect has bad reps, but the problem with Herbert was less about red flags and more about a perceived lack of green flags. Herbert was coddled and not really given room to impress at Oregon due to a very simple offense, whereas Maye has been given comparitively ample opportunity to make the game-winning or game-losing play (and he has done both multiple times). The strongest similarity between Herbert at Oregon and Maye is really just that a lot of people don't know how they feel, so their negative bias is winning out. Still think Maye is the QB3 and will prove the doubters wrong if he goes to the right spot, but I think he's the other side of the coin of Herbert as far as scouting goes.

Drake Maye has potentially more upside than any other quarterback this draft. He is also much younger than the other top tier quarterbacks. If the goal in the NFL is to win championships, then I can't see rolling the dice being a bad thing for a team like the Patriots. The whole issue with Mac Jones -- beyond his disaster of a final year -- was he had a low ceiling. What is the point of drafting a starter at the most important position if they will never have the potential to be top 5 or top 10? It is almost impossible to win without an elite QB, so go for broke.

love your channel. but he's got bust written all over him. the problem is he doesn't read defenses. a good example was that td at the 4min mark. you claim he saw the corner? he didn't watch enough maye tape and you'll realize he doesn't see the field. he sees the WR and the immediate guy covering them. he probably couldn't tell you what the coverage was or where the CB was going. all he saw was his guy with some separation on the post and threw it. I would like to add this whole QB class has bust written all over it. from the top to the bottom. a lot of not very good QBs. I know everyone is all over Caleb Williams but he looks just like Zach Wilson with some nail polish and an even more disruptive attitude to me. Penix, Nix, the list goes on and on. lots of mediocre junk at QB in this draft. someone might rise to the top, but this feels like a bad class to me. Something to keep in mind. These are kids. but they have enough football under their belt they should know how to read a defense by now. What you are attributing to drake "manipulating the defense" with that deep in was actually just him going through his progressions looking for an open guy. How do i know? because he never manipulates the defense. not to the extent you'd expect him to do it if he did it regularly enough. in the case of that play there is a little sideline comeback/ or comeback and go the WR will run, while the underneath guy will run to the sideline in an out. that's actually where the play will go 9 times out of 10 for the tarheals. it's action Maye loves to throw, in fact he gets into trouble because he often prefers to throw it to the WR on the sideline so much he often won't even notice the out route underneath open. in this case there was nothing there. so he moved off it. In fact the deep post was probably no.4 on his progression. Give him props for the big boy throw, but don't start claiming he read a defense or manipulated it, when he's never shown the ability to do either. you say he's up and down, no, he's up against simple or bad defenses, he's down against complex or good defenses. Remember the difference between John Elway and Trent Dilfer (both had strong arms), was Elway could complete the easy shit everyone is supposed to complete. Dilfer struggled the most with the easy shit NFL QBs could do. need a guy to throw a 30 yard skinny post against cover 2? both guys could do it. need a guy to throw a 5 yard swing pass? Elway would complete that 10 out of 10 times, dilfer usually would skip it to the RB or sail it into the stands 7 out of 10 times. Maye has dilfer's problem, he can't do the easy shit. sure he can do the amazing stuff from time to time, but the easy shit? not interested. That blitz beater is a perfect example of why Maye will fail at the next level. the hot read was the WR at the bottom of the field. he actually looked at the hot and chose not to throw it. 4 yards? too boring. Instead he threw the harder pass into coverage. yes it worked. but man, shit like that will kill him at the next level. the only guys in the league right now who can do that shit are Mahomes and Allen. and I think both of them make their lives harder by doing that shit. Maye isn't a mahomes or allen.

It'll all depend on how well he's coached and how well he learns that coaching. Jordan Love had bad footwork, hell he had had footwork at the start of last season (his feet just didn't match what his shoulders were doing) but game after game it got better and better and by game 12 the bad footwork had become good to great footwork. I suspect Maye has bad footwork for the same reason Love did, a talented cannon of an arm he relies on too much. This trait can be coached out of a player, if you want a textbook example of this wath Love game tape from last year.

Drake Maye has had NFL level QB coaching for years, in high school Josh McCown and at UNC Clyde Christensen (Peyton Manning, Luck, Tom Brady former coach) and still has mechanical issues and mental mistakes, so none of them could fix his flaws? Or is it a case that he just does not learn.. pretty big red flag!

Maye’s hate is starting to become real, but McCarthy stock is going up. lol Make it make sense please. Yes Maye has his ups and downs, but his play reminds me a lot of Herbert. He’s only going to get better with time and put into a good situation.

And yet Maye is probably still going top 3, while McCarthy's window probably starts at 23rd (Minnesota's second pick). Why haven't we learned yet that whatever changes in guys' draft stock past the combine are purely in our heads?

Drake Maye’s college production and competition are not 1st Round worthy. He’s fool’s gold like QBs Mitch Trubisky and Blake Bortles. They were both picked in the top of the first round, and yet they both were actually second (even third) round talent. If Drake Maye goes to the Patriots (yikes!) he’ll be spread on that field (from sacks) like butter on burnt toast!

Maye is already used to playing for a horrible team. There is no situation in the NFL that won’t be an improvement. His competition wasn’t excellent but his supporting cast was so bad that his competition being bad doesn’t take away from him Maye is very likely to be the best QB of the class a few years down the line by my estimation and if the commanders or Pats pass on him they will regret it

He reminds me off college Tua, there's a lot of potential, but he's just a bit nervous and looses his footing under pressure, but when he's locked in, he's as elite as some of the best QBs in history. Strong coaching and finding the right teammates for him will turn him into the elite QB he needs to be.

People who are scared to draft drake maye should be fired, from what he CAN do far outweighs what he can’t. If you feel like you can’t coach him to his potential get lost. Yes Drake Maye will get someone fired, but because they didn’t draft him. QB1

Um, yeah! That's what happens when a great talent plays with sub-par players. It actually makes him a massive steal for the team that gets him on cheap cheap. It doesn't take an expert to see he's above average compared to his peers, put weapons around him. Caleb Williams is the opposite they put the best WR Corps ever assembled around him in Chicago, and when he fails, it proves he was trash. He will fail, too😂.

It is exceedingly likely he’s a bust. Everyone now thinks players can just do what Josh Allen did. Well Drake isn’t nearly the physical freak athlete that Allen actually is AND what Allen has done is by far the exception and not the norm. Even at that, Allen STILL struggles with playing the hero ball and random crazy/bad decisions. Drake isn’t going to be another Josh Allen.

Drake is an absolute athlete. Just take away whatever opinion you have on him for this comment He grew up in an athletic family, dad played qb in college and maybe nfl, his brothers were college athletes. And Maye was a stud shortstop and star basketball player in highscool as well.

First round QBs only get an extension from the team that drafted them like 25% of the time, so the first sentence is technically correct, even though your argument is stupid. The situation a player lands in is the number one factor determining his success or failure. Maye barely resembles Josh Allen at all, so that's a braindead comparison based only on them being white and athletic with bad habits coming out of college, but he has the potential to be a franchise guy. It largely depends on who's coaching him, what he has to work with, how well he takes to coaching, and what they try to do with him (plus injury luck and other factors).
