Another thing is that even if the goalkeeper dives to the direction of your shot, a well taken kick can still go in, so if a player trains a specific place to shoot the ball over and over, assuming the goalkeeper predicts its direction, they would have a better chance to score it, compared to placing it down the middle, as the goalkeeper will always save it if they made the right choice. Yes. If a player aims for the corners, it is in their hands whether the shot will go in or not. However, if they shoot down the middle, it resulting in a goal is not based on how well they hit it, but instead whether the goalkeeper moves or not.

If you take a perfect shot in the corner, the goalkeeper has absolutely no chance to get it, whereas a shot in the middle will be definitely defended if the goalkeeper stand still. So I guess players usually decide to risk the corners looking for that perfect shot (something that depends only on the shooter) instead of doing something that depends on the goalie for success.

You should do the same for the goalkeeper point of view now. Should they wait for the shot and then try to catch it, or should they try to guess a corner in advance and go for the save a bit earlier?

I think that you should take into account that if shooting down the middle was a more common choice the success rate would probably go down because the keepers would be more willing to stay still and wait a bit longer. I think it all comes down on how good the player is in "faking" a shot in the corner prior to the actual kick, forcing the goalkeeper to choose a side. My anecdotal take is that you have to be good in this for the shot to succeed, and not all players are equally good in it, hence few actually trying it.
