Bonus: Gary Medel In the round of 16 of the FIFA world cup of 2014, between Chile and Brazil, Medel got injured, but Chile had already used their 3 changes. Medel went on to play the hole 120 minutes. After that FIFA changed the rules to allow an extra change in added 30 mins. That produced a series of changes in the rules. Edit: Medel played so injured, he had bandages all over his thigh. Chile lost in the penalties, but Medel's sacrifice for his country was a very moving thing.

I didn't know Forlan was the reason behind it, the rule change happened 2 years after he did the shirtless celebration. It's a shite rule. I understand if a player fails to get his shirt back on in time for the re-start, but other than that, it's another rule that doesn't harm anyone and should be abolished.

The backpass rule changed football so much for the better. As backpasses were no longer safe the whole concept of press, counterpress and generally attack minded play were much emphasised, resulting in more enjoyable game. Nothing stops parking the bus I think though.

A lot of the changes have been about finding the balance between allowing teams the freedom to choose a strategy that suits them, and preventing strategies which are seen as too negative or defensive from becoming OP. In 1980s the backpass meta had started to take over and so the developers, I mean authorities decided to nerf in for the next point release.

The backpass rule had nothing to do with the 1992 EC and Denmark (or Grobelaar, for that matter), but was made as a reaction to the 1990 WC. The rule was already accepted before the 1992 EC and was used briefly after in the 1992 Olympics.

In 2019 Oxford United scored a last minute counter attack winning goal against Bradford City after a goal kick, whereby an opposition player was still inside the box during the goal kick. There was mass confusion afterwards but the referee decided to gift the goal. Afterwards it was added to the rules that a goal kick can be taken quickly if an opposition player is inside the box to prevent the issue occuring again.

VAR in combination with offside ruined the game. Even if it can’t be seen by eye they draw those stupid lines and even one millimeter offside gets a goal disallowed. Margins that tight are impossible to get right, if they freeze the image a tenth of a second later or earlier the player may not be offside. Getting the exact moment the ball leaves the foot is too difficult with such small margins.

You seem to have no idea how technology works it’s not at all difficult to scrub through 30 or so frames on a slow motion image and find the exact moment the ball disconnects from the foot and that makes the decision a million times easier VAR itself is a machine it cannot get things incorrect it’s up to the people manning it to have common sense and whether they make the correct decision but the technology if used correctly ensures the correct decision

That is factually wrong, people used to be sold and bought all the time before that rule but it was entirely in the hands of the clubs o make the decision, and once a player's pass was bought he could only negotiate his salary with the new club that owned their pass. Two rules I would like to see 1. Return to the injury management tool used in the 94 world cup. If a player went down the ref merely indicated for a stretcher to be brought onto the field. If a player refused to get on the stretcher they were booked immediately for time wasting. If they were injured, help was quicker to get to them (you can tell I hate the stupid, endless and childish time wasting and play acting which hurts the game) 2. Deliberate handball on the goal line. At the moment its a red card and a penalty. It should be a red card and an automatic penalty goal. Why reward the cheating side with the chance of saving the goal. The fact that the ref awards a red card means the ref has accepted the ball was goal bound and that only cheating prevented it from counting.

I am sorry sir. You forgot one more important thing where the FIFA was forced to change a "PENALTY KICKING RULE". That happened in Albania at 1972(?), when Ramazan Rragami, the socker player of Vllaznia Futbol Club, scored 5 Penalties in one game, against "Besa" Futboll Club of Albania. After this Game, won by VLLAZNIA Of Shkoder-Albania, FIFA changed the rule of Penallty kicking to: ONE Penallty per Player. It is good to be recognized any contribution of non English Players to a modernization of Socker Games and rules.

UCL 2001/02 final: Real Madrid - Bayer Leverkusen UCL 2003/04 Semi-finalsts: Monaco, Deportivo La Coruña, Porto and one more team. The final: Porto - Monaco. UCL 2005/06 final: Barcelona - Arsenal. UCL 2006/07 Group stage draw: Barcelona, Chelsea, Levski Sofia and Werder Bremen. The final: The same as the final in 2005, but with the difference that AC Milan got revenge for Istanbul 2005 in Athens. UCL 2011/12 final: Bayern - Chelsea. UCL 2012/13 final: Bayern - Borussia Dortmund. UCL 2013/14 final: The Madrid Derby (Real - Atletico). UCL 2016/17 group stage draw: PSG, Arsenal, Basel and Ludogorets Razgrad. If there were no away goals rule, Aston Villa, Nottingham Forest, Hamburger (Hamburg), Borussia Dortmund, Juventus, Crvena Zvezda and Steaua Bucharest would never won the Champions League and Levski Sofia, CSKA Sofia and Ludogorets would not been able to play in any Euro club cup tournament.
