Gakpo always played on the left before coming to Liverpool, so playing him through the middle was just a mistake. He can "do a j9b" there, but none of his best attributes come out. Gravenberch actually did not play in that position in NL, so that transformation really is to Slots credit, even Ryan himself seems surprised that he can play there. In NL Slot improved a lot of players, but none so more than the midfielders. He made Gokcu, Wieffer and Timber into completely different players. And he is doing the same with Gravenberch and probably also Jones.

Last season Jota got injured at the wrong time, coupled with points lost due to corrupt refs, it was mission impossible for him to do better. The change in Gakpo, Gravenberch has more to do with them getting used to England, getting settled in their new environment and getting up their fitness level to keep up with the pace of the PL. Even Diaz who didn't speak English and came to new country had a lack of end product in his first 18 months. Slot didn't have a magic wand and taught the three how to kick a ball.

It's not that hard to understand how Liverpool got to this situation with the three contracts: The plan was to renew the contracts with 18 months to go, as is usually the case, but it just so happened that Klopp realised his energy wouldn't go on for much longer and announced he would leave at the end of the season. The players, for obvious reasons, wouldn't commit until they knew who was coming in as manager and until they had assessed him and whether they saw themselves working underneath him long term. By that point, a year has gone by. Thus the current situation. It's been really unfortunate timing, more than incomprehensible stupidity.

I think Chelsea have the quality to go on a 10 game winning run , P Neto , Sancho , J Felix , C Palmer , Nkunku etc are quality attackers Caicedo & Fernandez are starting to form a top understanding of their roles and deserve full credit , i predict the old Liverpool v Chelsea rivalry will re-ignite as we both have top squads , positive managers who have a clear way to play. Arsenal weren't that great this part of last season either. They Took off in January. Currently 4pts off last season and they lost the next 2 games.
